Hoping to Start a new thread for owners of this rare and fantastic car
Especially like to hear from UK or RHD members with a 90 and im also desperatley after any 90 parts to help keep the cars alive
If you dont know what a 90 is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_90
Sally Langley from AROC has been approached by journalist for a photoshoot of Alfa 90 and alfa 6. If anyone interested, please PM me or respond via the AROC thread
My first Alfa (after years and years of Lancias) was a new 2.5 V6 90, 'E' registration - 1987, kindly bought for me by my employers as a office car. A local car trader in Cardiff bought a job lot of 'em, brand new and sold 'em off cheap! Loved it to bits. I never forgave the office "gopher" who wrote it off in a collision with a van a year later.
I have just bought an Alfa 90, after a long history of owning Alfasuds (4) and Alfettas (3). Still own 2 Alfettas one is going to my son and the other is a track car.
I don't know much about the 2.5 V6, it seems to run well but sounds tappety. The Youtube videos I have watched suggest that at idle, this tappety character is common. Any advice?
I also get the impression that 90's are very rare these days and I intend to hold onto this car for a long time. It is a white RHD 2.5 GCL with the brief case. The body is good and the interior sound albeit a little stained. Given how few of these cars are left I don't think a refit with cloth or leather is a good idea?
I have started to repair my Alfa 90, it is going for some rust repair before I repaint the whole car. (I will show some pictures later) so it will look nice when we go to italy for the 100 year anneversary
When taking apart the interior I found that the clips that holds the sill protectors are almost rusted away
My question is; does the Alfa 75 or any other Alfa those clips?
And are the door seals from any other car, or are those to be bought per meter? Both on the body and top of door
Any source or other tips would be appriciated
When you say 'sill protectors', are you talking about the plastic trim piece that fits over the sill on the OUTSIDE of the car? If you are, i can tell you the part number for these clips, as I've just managed to locate some. Doubtful whether we are talking about the same thing though, because you mention you're taking apart the car's interior, and you also say the clips are rusty - the clips I'm thinking of are plastic.
Sorry, don't know about the door seals, maybe someone else will offer advice there.
Personally, I would have thought a slightly grubby but original interior is preferable to re-upholstering in something that is going to step away from originality. Can any of the stains be removed, or improved upon with upholstery cleaner? Or perhaps keep a look out for a 90 being broken, and rob the interior from that? One things for sure, you're right about them being rare!
Tappity on tickover? Not had mine that long, and not heard others to compare, so wouldn't like to say really. Mine is slightly tappety for the first minute perhaps, when cold.
To tell a long story short so was my Alfa 90 (above question on clips) in to bad condition to be repaired, the cost for the rust repair alone was 2000€ , so with a little help from a freind I found a rustfree Alfa 90 in southern Germany, I will pick up the car on Sunday in Helsingborg (Sweden) where it will delivered, My sunday will be 11-12hours in a car with trailer at the back doing 80km/h, but i will probably have big smile on my face seing a very good condion Alfa 90 in my rearview mirror
The car has not been in traffic since 2001, 2 owners from new
I will change the fluids and cam-belts to start with
Here is some of the sellers pictures
Perfect car to bring the family to Italy in
More info and pictures when I got it home for some closer inspection
Congratulations on the purchase! I'm not usually a fan of mods on these older cars if I'm honest, but IMO both those wheels and the side skirts work well. The skirts in particular seem to make the car more modern. She looks pretty mean!
With the Alfa Romeo Centenial coming up in June , the registerteam has taken profit of the fact that a lot of you will be in Milano in the celebration weekend .
That's why we decided to have ( as a warming up for the big festival ) an international Novantameet on Friday the 25th of June 2010 .
The meeting will take place on a big farm in Cisliano , 20 km from Milano . It will start at 3 PM and will last 'till 7 PM .
After this , you 'll have the possibility to stay at the farm for dinner . The farmer offers us a meal of Italians specialities including risotto , cheeses , sausages , ... and half a bottle of wine for the price of 20 euro per person .
If you would like to participate in this event , please let me know as soon as possible , so I can send you all the details on the location .
The meeting itself is free of charge .
If you want to stay for dinner , please let me know before May 15 as well as how many people will participate . So the farmer has enough time to organise everything .
It's great to see so much activity on the Alfa 90 front, I am not in a position to run a 'classic' alfa but my dad had a 90 in the mid 80s (an 85/B plate) in burgundy and despite them being extremely rare (I seem to remember being told their were only about 60 sold in the UK) there was another one in our village (decent local dealer I guess). I will never forget going to holiday to italy in it, primarily so my dad could wander round scrap yards looking for parts!
If you have some " old " pictures somewhere , I would be very pleased to receive them for our register .
