So, after driving back from Dumfries to London at a very steady 70-ish mph (apart from many sets of roadworks on the M6 / M1 where I slowed to 50) and a couple of work runs since I got back. I have just filled the tank up at 405 miles. Filled it with 60 liters which has given me an average of 30.7mpg.
I reckon for the motoway bit it was probably around 32mpg but the work runs have brough the average down a bit.
That's got to be the highest number of miles out of one tank from a V6, unless anyone knows better?
I was marvelling at my last tank just yesterday - a combination of motorways, an hour spent in an M4 tailback and the rest London driving (notoriously stop start, rarely out of 3rd/4th) and I got just over 350 which is 26.5mpg. More than happy with that (sorry Greenpeace) AND i have a right foot made out of lead
I get to 330 -350 and the light comes on (just under the quarter mark on the fuel guage). I wimp out at this point and fill her up as I have no idea how far I can go on the reserve tank. But 400+ blimey that is impressive
Same as my 156 V6  I get 400kms in the summer and 450kms during the winter from 60L
Worst has been about 350kms.......whats that about 15mpg? and I'm not going to mention what my Landcruiser gets through, it has 2 tanks with max capacity of 160litres :wow:
Good work Alex! I've been trying recently to see how many miles I can get recently, and had there not been 2 hours of traffic on my trip back from Newquay I too would've seen the magic 400! You need so much patience and discipline to stay at 70 or less, and it's very dull...
IIRC, during the petrol shortage around 2 years back one of the guys on Sportsalfa managed 450-500 in their V6! This was done with copious amounts of coasting to conserve as much juice as possible. Not a fair comparison really, but I'm assuming with the right conditions (long journey, clear motorway, never creeping above 70) 450 must be acheivable.
A mix of insults for being boring and praise for achievement. I can dig that.
It was boring, but I tend to be very selective these days about when and where I floor it. I've only just cleared the 6 points off my license that I aquired when I bought the V6. Don't want anymore!
Usually with the commute back and to from work I'll get about 300 to a tank. If I've been driving in a spirited way then it's around the 270 mark.
What amazes me is the range of economy depending on how you drive.
I was astonished to find that I achieved 30.1mpg on that legendary(!) Sportsalfa jaunt to Applecross that I'm sure you read about. I certainly was not driving with economy in mind but there were extremely long periods of sustained, if rather high, speeds.
jeez that's impressive- i bet it was like when clarkson done london-edinburgh-london in that v8 audi no windows open no aircon nothing
