I am going to ditch the standard head unit as I cannot cope with the shocking sound anymore:lol::lol:

Anyone got one an Alpine CDE-104BTi?

I am 99% nailed on to get one, unless someone has can advise me of a better unit or scares me off with nasty personal experiences :wow::wow:

Pros and Cons welcome...

I have one and it is great.

It is a bit basic, it hasn't even got a clock for instance and it will only play MP3's (not WMA and AAC etc) but sound quality is great.

TBH it works well BobCat, the sound is good, Ipod functionality is good if a little tricky to operate while driving...

My concerns about the standard speakers were allayed when I sparked it up and to be honest I don't see the need to invest in new speakers, in fact the guy who fitted it said if you spend £200+ on speakers the improvement in sound will be minimal... he suggested a sub would be a better bet if I was still not happy, though where a sub would go is anyone's guess

The bluetooth phone pairing is also decent.

thanks shemeuk,

it was a bit of a rushed desicion, so i'm glad you two guys have found it good. my only conern is that i can run my iPod thro the glovebox, but my phone is winMo, and that has tunes on too. i know the unit doesn't do ad2p, so i've got my fingers x'd that i can run my tunes from the usb stick in the phone thro to the front of the unit, and still connect bluetooth and TomTom..guess i'll find out on saturday, lol

we-e-e-ell....after listening to all the sage advice on here, i wanted to upgrade the speakers first, but the guy in the shop told me this would be better. and it is. better than the Sendai head unit that was in there, anyway. The alfa speakers just can't cope, lol

I was hoping for more of an improvement tbh, but i am happy. and i love the bluetooth. Next time, front components i think.

As for the head unit itself, still haven't really had a chance to get to play with it properly. we don't drive the car very often, but i have a long journey ahead of me this afternoon, so we shall see.

Not plugged the ipod in yet, but messed about with phone and usb and like it.

unfortunately my WinMo phone doesn't get recognised if i plug it into the usb slot, so i'll get an aux cable instead.

yeah, pretty happy so far, thanks shemeuk

morning all,

So i posted this in the ICE section, but i'm not getting much love, so i was wondering if you guys might help a bit more..

I'm looking to upgrade the comps in the front first and figure out what to do with single rear centre speaker later.

so after much reading, i was looking at these -

- kappa infinity 50.9cs (although i've read they are very bright and i'd like something more bass-ey)

- Rainbow SLX 230 Deluxe

- Kenwood KFC-PS1300P (old i know, but has a really good freq response and sensitivity)

- CDT CL-52 (i could just about stretch to these as my local shop has them on offer for £175)

so...what are everyones thoughts? anyone had any experience with any of these?

also, something i know nothing about...are these speakers ok being driven by the H/U only?

all comments / help / abuse gratefully received

Alpine cda-9831r (an old model headunit)
fronts mb quart discuss 5 ¼”
rear mb quart ewa 160
no name subwoofer
rockfordfosgate p4004 amp. (again an old model)
makes wonders for me...
choosing a good amp would change everything IMO.
and also not sure about kenwood but if u say the freq response is good then OK.
also if you are going to use smaller front speakers (as usually) u will hear mostly the rear speakers.so starting with changing rear speakers would be better i guess.
