Smashing! Will probably need this as former owner removed the skirts with the intention of having them painted, so i guess i will be refitting them. Cheers for this.
thats great but i take it this is a guide for retro fitting as the standard fit has little pop on clips on the wing and along the cill.
And they are a knightmare to clip on.
The best method for fixing them on is to use a high strengh sealent and G clamp the cill on for a few hours.
The silcoflex body tape is next to useless.
I forget the name of the sealer but its the stuff manufactuars use to bond roof panels etc.
You can get it from good motor factors.
Once it has stuck those skirts are going nowhere.

There is the fact that if your fiting the sideskirts to a base model car then you wont have the studs, so no need for those easy clips, just the sicky tape and screws underneath will be enough to hold them on.
I used Terason Terastat from Brown Brothers , Brilliant stuff no wedging required grips really well , Drove mine 20 mins after doing them and there still firmly stuck 2 years later
Cant quite remember Mike i know it started with a 9 and had 4 digits i 'll have a look on tinternet see if i can find it , failing that i'll nip into Brown Bros and get the right number .
Have you rung Brown Bros and asked them , they also stock the Tiger seal stuff which is good
Terostat-9220 it's the best body kit adhesive on the market, made by Loctite-Henkel, cost around £25 a tube, top, top adhesive...................................
Hello all, I had a go at this last week in order to cover up my grotty sills so am in a position to offer some advice. Excellent diagrams by the way...
If you're installing skirts on a car that did not previously have them, you'll notice there are a series of small black bungs on the underside of the sill (not to be confused with the larger ones) which, if removed, reveal a small rectangular hole - on cars fitted with skirts these would have internal plastic threads to take the self tappers which fix the skirts from the bottom - as shown in Smaky's diagrams. If the trip to the dealer seems a bit too much like hard work remove all the small bungs and force plastic plasterboard fixers of an appropriate side into the holes ensuring a tight fit. This will give you something to screw into, and more importantly, something that expands.
Next, make sure the mating surfaces between the top of the skirts and the sills are clean (carb cleaner, alcohol etc.) and apply either very good double sided tape - as suggested above - or body panel sealant. I've got it to work successfully with the latter, but haven't tried the former, though if Smaky says it works, I'm sure it does!
Using washers if necessary, loosely screw the sills up from the bottom, allowing the top (which at this point should have a beat of sealant along it to dangle until you're confident it's level front and back and you can push it up into place, allowing the wonderful Debbie McGee (or whoever your assistant might be) to finish tightening the self tappers into the plasterboard fixers.
Work your way along applying pressure at the top (you can always cut off any overspill once it's dried) ensuring a good fit. Keep pressure on it for as long as you can bear, watching out for any bulges
If you try to do it when it's damp, use pritt stick, attempt to screw straight into the metal or get bored half way through, chances are you'll have a gap between the sill and the skirt big enough to grow a small rhododendron within about a week.
Factory skirts on my 156 were loose at the top, stripped off all the old adhesive tape, cleaned them with IPA (not beer), and reapplied (very strong) body tape liberated from work. worked for about a week, the side that gets the sun on it when the car is parked at work just stretched back out again. Gonna try again with PU adhesive/sealant and clamp them for a day. should work....hopefully.
Smaky where is your workshop, I'm going to be needing some work done and was wondering if you're in reasonable traveling distance from me? (Salisbury)
Sorry to bring out that one from the dustbin but here's my question:
On the side of the sill my car has 3 holes covered with rubber caps. Two at both ends and one just where the front and rear doors meet
And there is me loking at those sideskirts on ebay having those 3 things sticking upwards looking just as they would match the 3 holes on my sill...
Mine is a 2004 facelift.Any idea if my thinking is on the right track or I'll need to do the same as the guys above?
Just to add to this thread, I went through the pain of spraying my side skirts then fitting with PU adhesive/sealant! It was a complete waste of time, the corners on the top of the skirt pulled away from the car and this was after being clamped for 24hrs! I decided to do the job properly and used Sikaflex 221 wonderful stuff, on there to stay now
