Yeah, as said above, the diesel engines really are brilliant once remapped, you can increase power by about 20-30 %, sometimes more, the engines LOVE a good mapping, plus for 200 notes you can't get much more bang for buck unless you get Nitrous, and you don't wanna do that, trust me,

Not heard of too many 10v driveshafts going.. Mine certainly never did, and I did 30k miles with it remapped. It had a tuning box on it when I bought it, and no history of driveshafts ever failing on the previous owner.

I have, however, heard of LOADS of 20v driveshafts failing especially on remapped cars.

As Smakey said. Also factor in a new clutch and possibly flywheel. The previous owner of my 2.4jtd had it chipped for 18 months. I removed the chip within a couple of days of ownership. The power was on or off with nothing in between. Not a very pleasant driving experiance.
I have replaced the clutch/flywheel and have a knock under hard acceleration which I think is a drive shaft. All thanks to the chip!!!

What people seem to forget is that the design boffins have designed the drive train with the standard torques as their reference. Then what do people do!! They go and increase the torque.:tut:

Is this another my remaps better than yours thread???  ...

+1 to the remap (I've got 350 lb ft and 207 BHP) ... have to be honest I do have to be careful with the power in high gears/low revs ...

Also factor in a new uprated clutch (mine is starting to go), also the extra power will highlight the need for a Q2 (get this done at the same time as the clutch to save on labour) ...

... you could obviously go for a less extreme map ... but where the fun in that

If you want to save your drivetrain but still have the power, then go for a map with a nice flat torque line rather than 'dyno-queen' figures.

280lb/ft at the wheels will still give 215bhp. This amount of torque is perfect for your clutch and box and will save you driving carefully at low revs also.

Its not the power that kills things, just excess torque, make this clear to the mapper. They will use the torque limiter in the map to keep things under control, Red Dot did on mine.

But that's no fun!!!

If it's a facelift then ('53 onwards ish) it will be 20v if it's the original then it will be 10v

I know what you mean Mitch!

Chip or Remap, many are done so there's too much torque for the drivetrain (low down torque) and as stated, it doesn't make for a pleasant driving experience.

Sadly, the 2.4 when mapped/chipped (whatever) is not as linear or progressive as the 1.9, and power can seem on or off - agian, it can feel aggresive and unpleasant to drive.
