Hi,

I ahve a 147 2.0 Lusso (52 plate), and for a while now I've had a tinny rattle come from near the driver's side wheel arch.

In the last 12 months I've had the Timing Belt and Timing Variator replaced, and the full exhaust replaced.

The rattle seemed to stop after the exhaust was replaced, but can't be 100% sure as I can only hear it when the window is down or I'm outside the car.

It's a loud metallic rattle that starts on ignition and it stops after about 5 seconds, or if I rev the engine to about 2500/3000 revs.

Most suggestions seem to point to the exhaust heat shield, but more worryingly some seem to point to the variator or timing belt, both of which I had done in November 2007.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you

i had an issue like this on my ibiza cupra and it turned out to be a damaged CAT it had started to fall to bits and rattled when cold then stopped once temperatures had risen. so my advise would be to get the car on a ramp so it level then give the cat a knock to elliminate this potential problem.

I had a similar noise on start up. I replaced the heat shield but no change. Then a thread on here said to check front exhuast bracket. This turned out to be cracked around the bolts. Thread said to take off bracket as not needed and noise has stopped.

Will post thread with detail when i find it.
