Yeah, you could put 20w/40 oil in - if you can find such a grade - but it'll knacker your engine. I'm sure Shoggyraminator meant 10w/40 semi.
And changing the oil every 5K is worth it if you constantly drive hard. 8-10k is fine with normal(ish) driving. As long as you use good quality oil. In my opinion you can't go wrong with Shell Helix Plus 10w/40 semi. For £24 a gallon it's a bargain.
I like to drive pretty hard so I might be better with a 10w-60, but as it's so cold up here in winter maybe I should use 5w-40?? My average drives are around 20-30 minutes long if taking into account journy to work.
I didnt really think about your location, if you warm the car up before you drive im sure 10w/60 shud be more than fine, 5w/40 fully synthetic wouldnt do any harm either just doesn't protect and perform as well when the v6 gets hot and ur constantly flooring it.
I asked the same question a while back, and got the Selenia answers..... but my local mechanic told me that I should not change out the oil with a different grade, but should replace it with the same grade oil.....
Is he right? I wanted to put a 10w/60 in, but he reckons the oil currently in is 5w/40.....
