hi kev im sure marks sud will sell as its a very good car and adding the link to show the work done will help also so people can see whats been done .
mark im sure your be sad when you see it go.
you just know you will regret it mate
not too late to change your mind
just do what's best for you, never an easy decision, i often wish i had kept the sprint
Turns out it's a mate of mine, I spoke to him yesterday about it.
Between us we must have had over 40 Alfas in the last 15 years. He bought my first Sud off me and we've restored and broken numerous others. He's certainly an enthusiast so it will be going to a good home.
Guess you are all talking about me!
I have been out of the Alfa loop for about 10 years, working very hard and making a big family! - but I think i've made it out the other end and the Alfa bug has come back to me big time.
My last alfa was a 146 11 years ago and it wasn't great (but prior to that I had loads of different proper Alfa's). Since then, I've owned a whole array of new Euro junk but my head told me a couple of weeks ago to buy a 159 - I ended up with a 159 sportwagon 2.4 Lusso. S**t on fuel but I don't care. (Bought it from Mangoletsi and am pleased to say that they are still THE Alfa dealer. Big thank you to Kevin for a great deal and professional service.) It is far superior to other cars these days. Only problem is I've had a clean license for 10 years and think it's possibly time for that to change
So an old friend of mine told me about the sud on ebay and I've left a deposit and will collect next week. Exciting stuff. Not having driven anything like it for years, it will be very interesting to see how it feels. I remember 13-15 years ago we used to say that, as an overall driving package, the Sud put all new cars to shame. Will this still be the case?
The Sud is a proper Alfa, the 146 a pug ugly Fiat Tipo lash up. You'll enjoy a good Alfasud - even after all these years I can't think of another car I enjoyed quite as much. A good one (complete with inevitable water leaks and little issues) is infectious. Good luck with it!
welcome to the forum mate, you certainly have got hold of a good car i know mark was sorry to see it go
hope the memories are not a dissapointment :tut: times move on and we tend to forget how much modern cars have moved on but, if it's a weekend play car then i think you are in for a treat  my old sprint was great fun to drive, just got to wait a while to try my sud, should have taken the short cut like you have
Hi kev.
Thanks for the reply. Definately a weekend car. But yes - i feel like i have cheated big time doing it this way. i guess it won't be too long before I get something else to take to bits though!
are there plenty of empty roads to 'enjoy' the car in up there  even though you have a great car it will still need tlc so the jobs will be available many other suds up in scotland might be the only one at local meets post some pics when you can
While I agree that the Sud and the 146 are not as good as one another on the joy to drive front I wouldnt have said it was that bad either.
To be honest the only car I have driven that compares with the roller skate nature of my Sud Ti was a mk3 CRX vtec.
Alternatively could you tow a caravan, drive 200 miles with a car full of kit, and family in a Sud and still get out feeling human?
The 146 is one of a number of Alfas that wasn't bad, but wasn't that great either. They just leave me cold, I'm afraid. The early flat four cars were just useless and whilst the later ones were better, there's too much Fiat in them. I can't get on with those, the 145 or the 147. Cars like the Mark 1 Focus moved the game on and Alfa still haven't caught up.
Oddly enough, of all the 33's I drove during my Alfa dealer stints, the one I liked the best was the basic 1991-94 1.5i.e. They'd refitted the anti roll bars and on it's skinny tyres it was much nicer to drive than the 1.7 and 16v cars. The 145 just felt like a heavy underpowered tank after the 33.
I do remember many years ago on a back road just north west of Harrogate - going over a brow of a hill, taking off and having to make a sharp right straight after - all too fast - and making it! - only a sud could have done it
hi ian thats a nice sud you have got i originally won it on ebay but could not get it at the time and told mark who got it and did a splendid job restoring it ,good luck with the car and post on here. .
A couple of us up here now - as a recent Sprint owner I am amazed at the 'WTF is that' look on peoples faces. And those who areold enough remember them with affection.
We should take these along to the next Scottish meet (if I can b#get mine running well enough)
