So I was gonna try swapping my 159 for something a bit bigger but she still has that hook on me that I still turn round when I walk away from her ?
Anyway I'm off to eurodisney soon from Edinburgh and now realise what an un-long journey friendly car it is. 1 12v socket and a joke for a cup holder. Where are all our drinks going to go, where can I plug satnav, 2 kids TVs and a phone charger in? Alfa make stunningly beautiful cars inside and out but practical? No lol
Oh and since she's staying she needs to sound as good as she looks which means a £600+ exhaust job and maybe a cheeky remap too
Get drinks holder adaptors to stick in the air vents & buy an all in one £400 double din screen with sat nav feature built in plus DVD player for the kids. Wire up two external monitors and stick in the pouches behind seats and you have yourself your multimedia system aswell.
You can create an adaptor coming straight off the fuse box to allow for multiple 12v sockets which can be wired to the back aswell if need be for charging with a usb adaptor.
Too many extra pounds I could use on exhaust lol. I have the TVs and satnav already. Would have thought it would have had a 12v socket in rear
Just need to buy an ugly multi 12v socket and some cup holders
Not checked boot, i meant back seat area. Ive got one of those sockets but my TVs are old skool chunky plugs.
Ive ordered a few bits to help ease the journey but it's no Saab 9-5 estate that I'm used too. Lol
I use my car for long journeys, often carrying all sorts of kit. I confess that the Alfa lacks stowage space for "stuff".
Having said that, I now just take less "stuff".
Only makes you realize, that you don't need that much "stuff" around you.
I personally love that my car lacks cup holders. It's the best way to make sure that it looks good & clean and has no old cups and sh*t lying around.
Btw, I usually drink out of 0.5 liter PET bottles when driving far distances, and I have found one place where to put by bottle - between the drivers seat and the door, there are two bulky areas and one less bulky - this spot is perfect for a bottle, as the bottle stays upright and does not move in curves or during heavy breaking. I felt like McGyver when I found it about 2 years ago.
On the other hand, you have a nice cool box (albeit only suitable for 3330ml drink cans).
If you've not done it already, push the 12v socket back (it can be fully pushed in if you are not using it) and take the ashtray out, gives you a bit more room for stuff, and it's not one where it looks silly if you take it out.
I have an idea you could fly their & use the cup holders on the plane at no extra cost, save fuel and mileage on the 159 also you may have a TV in the head rest in front of you plus points - less shouting at each other until you arrive in France. Don't forget you have to run back to Scotland where the shouting starts again
What I did with my sat nav, mainly because I just hate to see sat navs on the windscreen is to buy a s/h air vent and modify it to take a permanent plastic disc, I wired it into the 12v feed for the radio behind the dash. Nice and neat and keeps the ciggy socket free and no trailing leads. I also changed the head unit which has a USB socket so we can charge phones there, in fact, we hardly need the 12v socket! We have done 1000's of miles touring in our Spider and Brera, OK, no kids to spoil things, but we have always managed to find holes and space for junk.
Just teach your kids to play 'I spy' or 'punch buggy' (etc), then you won't need extra technology to keep them occupied.
Or even a good book will do.
