car was running sluggish under 3000rpm

so today i decided to polish the tb and BIG difference far better right the way through the rev range

i took it to where i test drive all my cars and now its 300+ yards faster to 100 than before :D

about the same as my probe 2.5 v6 which was quick
:D

BIG BIG IMPROVEMENT IN PERFORMANCE

next stop induction kit:D

I guess he talks about a long straight where he measures the distance on which the car can get to 100. And now it can get to 100 on 300 yards less. But to me it seems too nice for just polishing the TB.

yup it is but i want to do it anyway with a direct ram so air is forced in to see if that makes a big improvement

TB was to a mirror finish and has made a big difference in performance

but i never new what it was like before as i bought it with cambelt failure
after spending £300 on repairing all the damaged parts inc big end shells
the car only ever seemed to go after 3000rpm !

now it goes and pulls in 5th under 2000rpm altho not blisteringly quick

TS will come on song at 3000 ....

I wouldn't bother with an induction kit. Waste of money.

Forced induction????

Anyhoo. The twin spark engine reacts really well to a remap. I had mine done 3 weeks ago. Gave the beast an extra 15BHP and I have a really smooth acceleratioon from 1500RPM right through to 7200RPM :D.

Before, the car barely pulled below 3000RPM as you describe.

Made mine more responsive by simply fitting the V6 intake and throwing away the resonator box before the air filter. Better MPG too ...

But if you have a V6 that isn't going to work, unless you swap the standard one for the GTA pipe ....

MPG is about the same tbh. The rev limiter raises by about 500 RPM. I got mine done with Red Dot in Watford. Took about an hour to do!!

Know the guys there pretty well. Its all done on RR so you know exactly what you're getting!

They are Italian too, so they love working with Italian cars!

OA.

What engine do you have and what did you use to polish the throttle body? I was cleaning up my throttle body (and inlet mainfold :) ) the other day and was going to use some Auto Glym Metal Polish to bring them up to a nice finish...

What sort of wax did you use, the same as you would on the bodywork?

I've got my engine (1.8TS) on my drive at the moment and the throttle body and inlet manifold are both off (along with everything else, hehe). The amount of crap on the 4 ports of the inlet manifold was shocking though, much worse than in the throttle body - obviously it should make a similar improvement to what you claim polishing this as well, although I appreciate it's not the most practical thing to do ;)

I just cleaned the TB on my 145 cloverleaf. Can't comment on a change though as there is an electrical fault on the engine at the moment.

The standard 145 TB has a large polished area already around the butterfly valve but on mine it had a black "scorch" mark around the betterfly in the direction of the airflow. No amount of scrubbing lifed that mark, Can you recomend anything?

I used brake cleaner. Same basic stuff and very effective(the filth just lifts off) but cheaper (used under recomendation from another forum).

no not car polish its a cutting wax you get with the mops i got mine from B&Q you can also get the small version for a dremel multi

i used a larger version for the butterfly as i removed it from the TB

took me about 20min to polish it once removed from the car

i was going to do that BUT i thought about it after i just replaced the head after cambelt failier so next project after i get back from croatia

bloody hell thats gonna be a long drive with no cruise control and its a 99T so no chance of modding it like everybody else with the later cars

roll on 3 weeks :D
