Just an idea.:)

To have a thread where we can share what we have done or bought or considered for our beloved cars "today" thread.

Hopefully this might catch on?

I will kick off..

Managed to align my front bumper properly...Big thanks to shiny car's guide to bumper removal. Once i had removed the front portion of arch liner the 2 torx screws were revealed and the bumper was easily aligned as it should be.

Did notice my oil cooler pipes looked a tad ropey. Will have to look into oil cooler options. Is upgrading the unit wise at this point? Covered the pipes in rust protectant for now. Better the devil you know.

Damien.

"On mine the plug on the passenger side looks identical to the one on the drivers side,"

Maybe it's an age related thing (mine is a 54 plate) you know the "continuous improvement" blah blah. But if you can grip the handle and it won't pull out then something is wrong (you knew that already didn't you).

Maybe somebody did glue it in the past or spilled some kind of gunk on it. All I can think of is to keep working on it gently (but watch the bulb movement from outside the headlamp as you do it) - hopefully you'll eventually break the seal not the bulb holder.

Checked and tightened the rear suspension bolts etc from a arm and suspension upper bearing change about 12 months ago. The drop links on one side had come a little loose.

Rather what someone else did to my GT today..

Some F'wit decided to scribe a key down my front wing and rear panel...Words defy me.

Lovingly hand washed again today, applied copious amounts of RainX (the last application only lasted about 3 days :tut:), and am considering having a go at waxing.. I bought the turtle wax weeks ago but never got round to it... Will be nice to have the extra protection for the winter up and down the motorway!

Also topped up my tyres, I'm embarrassed to say that they were all 10+ PSI short of the target ...

Bloody surprising as I bought it from a dealer about 6-7 weeks ago and had it "health checked" at a local garage the week after that, and has been into yet another garage for tracking on week, and a tracking correction the next.. I had stupidly assumed that it would have been checked/topped up by any 1 of the 3 garages!!!

At least that sheds some light on the funny handling and constant feeling of tram-lining/tracking weirdness..

If you want the best from your waxing efforts, including lasting protection you'll want to properly decontaminate the lacquer. Start with a fallout remover around the lower sections of the car then a good prewash/snow foam and two bucket wash. Then the all important clay bar and another two bucket wash, rinse and dry. Then polish and finally apply your wax.
Sounds like a huge faff but it's worth the effort and every wash afterwards will be much easier.

Found Rain-X a waste of time ... eventually scratches up from using the wipers and a real faff to remove. I prefer a good set or Aerotwin blades and a clean screen.

Anyway today ... fitted a better battery awaiting the new one next week (so the Pug 206 isn't going far ... same battery type and newer but I have a 360 mile round trip tomorrow and 156 is much more comfy (and fun!). :)

Rainex is ok for the side windows and is fantastic on plastic headlamps. I wouldn't use it on the window screen, but where the wipers dont go can keep the dirt off longer. Aeros n bare glass every time, I go divy at the hand wash guys if they try cleaning my screen, they don't understand English!

Try Angelwax H2G0.....you'll never think about using Rain-X again. It's no more expensive than Rain-X either. You can also use it on your windscreen with no issues as long as you prep the screen properly first.
Get it from www.Ioclean.co.uk and use the discount code da10 to get 10% off. You'll also get free Haribo too!

Sounds good, does it stay on longer because you need to redo rain-x every couple of weeks:(

Oil change and air filter clean and refit. While doing it i noticed the front bolt in the battery tray was sat in the tray so battery out and refit that. Repositioned an errant wiper blade that was cleaning the A pilar too.
Cleaned the engine cover for the first time too - looks brand new without the oil and dirt. Vacuumed the small debris from a mouse nest under the cover

Big clean inside and out tomorrow before a mini road trip this week.

EGR Blank Modified

Todays job was to modify the EGR Blanks I bought, mine's a Euro4 JDM and I bought the complete blanking plates! Apparently ok for an Euro3 JDM, wondered why the EML kept coming on! Removed blanks, drilled a 6mm hole in the lower one and 4x 4mm holes in the manifold one, refit, clear fault code, and job done no more EML!
