attempted DPF regen

Hi All
Having learnt a lot more about Alfa in the last 10 weeks from this website I finally took my 159 JTD onto the freeway to attempt a DPF regen.
After a AO thread recommendation I drove for 30mins maintaining rpm between 3000 to 4000rpm.
Stopped for approx. 5 mins and drove back the other way again maintaining same revs.
Kept eye on instantaneous fuel economy number (L/100km) but no noticeable regen occurred.
How long does a region typically take?
What is the mechanism to initiate a regen, i.e. temperature sensor, differential pressure or other instrument which detects soot/ash?
Car's only at 25k so perhaps still clean enough?
Thanks
JAMES

It's time based ( think around every 16hrs), with a pressure based over ride ( so it detects if blocked), so your may well have regened before you got it, I often missed my regens mind.
Blanking or partially restricting your EGR can help reduce DPF issues down the line. :)

Hey Giblets

Can you recommend a Multiscan tool.

I've seen many on dedicated Alfa sites like this one
Alfa Romeo Shop - Tuning, Styling, Fanartikel und Modellautos - Autarkes OBD-2/EOBD Diagnosesystem Handger?t Autarkes OBD-2/EOBD Diagnosesystem Handger?t 51841

to some cheapies on ebay and Amazon, and

much more expensive units supplied like this
Actron Auto Scanner - OBD2 & CAN Scan Tool - Supercheap Auto Australia

Do they all essentially do the same thing?
Should i be looking for any particular features?

Regards

yeh, that's the one to go for, try and get an EML cable rather than the OBDII one, as it is a little fussy.

What sets it off is a count down timer in percentage approx 1hour running engine time equals 5%. There is also a pressure sensor which monitor's the clogging. For example if following a successful regeneration of the dpf the sensor recognises 20% clogging 80% free then your next regening should be in 16 hrs running time. It has to make the temp in the dpf reach over 600 c to make it happen that's why desiel is fired in on the exhaust stroke.
Its best to run at about 2,000 revs to achieve Max heat in minimum time.
PS its designed to happen so you don't,t notice it, should last about 10 mins.

OBD / OBD-II is the name of the interface that includes the 2 standards KKL & ELM.

Neither is better or worse but for the Alfa you need a modified V1.4 ELM cable for best results like the one in the link I posted.

Earlier non modified ELM adapters require aditional cable converters sold separately same stands for KKL.

Thanks Jab
Always more questions though, so quickly...
1) on eBay link for KKL cable it references x3 different colours may be required. You said the green one so Ok but what are other colours and what are they for?
(Assume these are the coloured "adaptors" you refer to in your earlier post?)
2) What's VAG and why is it useful?
3) Can you recommend a KKL cable then?
Yes I'm new to all this automotive jargon and very much appreciate your help.
Cheers!

Assume nothing!!!

Only buy a cable that has been modified to work with MultiECUScan and explicitly states so in the advert. If you look on the multiecuscan website and google modifying cables to work with ecuscan you will see what the issue is and why just buying a random ELM cable you found will end up in a waste of money / time and epic levels of frustration when you can read data but cant reset or change any values.

Trust me, I have several different ELM & KKL cables in my possession....
