I`m still new to Alfa Romeo, anybody know how exactly to reset the trip meter of a Alfa 147 to 00Km after you fill-up? Some how I always struggle and after pressing numerous buttons it eventually resets. Pressing the "KM" button by the dimmer and mode button does not seem to work.
Your guys help will be great!! It`s quite frustrating everytime I fill-up and have difficulty in reseting the trip meter.
Mine too. But it seems to work almost randomly. Try holding the mi(km?) button for 3-5 seconds, then push it a couple of times, then hold it again (no seriously!!) It seems to work for me
I had a problem I think, with this when we first got ours, '01 plate. First thing I had to get, was the correct battery for her! Whilst I was at it, thought I would fit that isolator switch, to main battery Neg- lead. Since then, and as I frequently throw the switch off, (odometer naturally zeros) I then re-set date time, etc, everything seems to function. What I'm trying to get at, in my ever long winded fashion, is that the trip is able to zero when tanking up via the K button. Just wondered if a battery disconnect might sort yours? Worth a try, no guarantee it would of course.:
If you are trying to reset the trip below the odometer, it's as you described, to reset the trip computer you hold in the SET button on the end of the wiper control stalk for a couple of seconds,
re switches my headlight level switch stopped working, and when the dealer fixed it and I got it back none of the other switches down there worked, ie mode, +, -, so it could be another sensitive area
Believe it or not, 4 years of ownership, handbook, workshop CD, loads of help from AO ers' still have to think, fiddle, and try to work out some of the functions it's got.
Okay guys,
I have been pressing everything now, pressed "Set" on Wiper stalk, that did not work, pressed "KM" did not work, pressed "Res" on Speedo stalk, that did not also work, you think maybe there is a problem?
This might sound daft, I tried reset mine while I was driving and it wouldn't work no matter how long I pressed the "mi" button. I then tried it whislt stopped (don't remeber if engine running or not) and it reset the counter..... Don't know if this was a fluke but give it a go.

I just got an early 147 lusso and found all this VERY confusing, so all that follows applies to MY 2001 jobby.
First off the button on the end of the wash arm only affects the "B" trip meter which is built into the trip computer setup, along with the trip computers normal setup ("A").
I have found that if I have the ignition on, but the engine not running, THE RADIO-CD OFF (yeah, I know, WIERD!), then double click the "Mi" (or Km) button then hold for four seconds the speedometer trip returns to zero! :wow:
Now; I do not claim that ALL that is necessary but I find if I do that it works!
Press and hold the wash-end-button for four seconds with the engine off and the igition on. This will reset the Trip A-B system.
The Trip B resets automatically after two hours engine down time.
Yes the 147 computer is V. comp. but I must admit the traction control and all the other toys are fun!
lol i didnt know half of that, id often wondered how trip a + b worked.
just to clarify for myself.
trip below odometer is reset by holding mi (this works okay on mine anyway)
trip a is reset by hitting the end of the stalk marked RES?
and trip b is reset automatically after 2 hours downtime?
while were at it what is the difference between the two recirculate air functions?
After reading this through again I realised I may have caused some confusion above by naming the buttons wrongly, (will edit now)
The 'RES' button is for Cruise Control
The 'SET' button -on the wiper stalk- resets the trip computer either A or B when held in for 4 seconds
on mine when you have a trip A parameter active pressing & holding 'SET' will reset both A & B,
to reset just trip B, press & hold 'SET' with a trip B parameter active.
my trip B has never reset itself, although the manual claims it should
Air recirculation
Both lights lit = Auto mode - recirculation on
Just the A light = Auto mode - recirculation off
Just the arrow light = Manual Mode - recirculation on
no lights lit = Manual Mode - recirculation off
basically the A light indicates Auto or Manual
the arrow light indicates if recirculation is on or off
In auto mode, mine just seems to turn the recirculation on when the car is stopped, whether it's on a packed motorway or empty carpark
Guess again Marksie! ALFA caused the confusion by naming the buttons so obscurely, yet similarly, and in a position where you can't see the names on them!
I think everything you said is accurate in your last post so I did not even bother to check! I reckon we all now know which buttons we are talking about.
Double checked mine today and DEFINATELY resets. I get a fresh set of readings in the morning when going to work (I now know exactly how far it is to my work!), then to the pub and back at lunchtime and again going home in the evening. You can really only tell by checking milage or time, I think. If yours is not resetting then surely it would just mirror the Trip "A" readings? No?

my 2.0 selespeed has the same problem of resetting the milage.....found way to make it work is toggle between city mode on and off....very strange but now always clears when doin it......don't you just love italian electrics!!!!!!
the recirculate air im talking about is (on UK lusso spec) the knob closest the drivers seat, it has an arrow on it and two leds on press makes on led come on another press makes the other led come on and a third press turns both off. just dont know what the difference is between the two settings that haas an led on :/ too complicated but i like it
Decky, does the button have an 'A' beside one of the LEDs, on mine the 'A' LED is on the RHS...
there are three different modes to choose from,
1. Automatic Mode,
'A' LED lit, the car decides when to turn re-circ on & off ( 'arrow' LED turns on & off automatically to signify)
2. Manual Mode - re-circ on,
re-circ is permanently on ( 'A' LED off, 'arrow' LED on)
3. Manual Mode - re-circ off,
re-circ is permanently off (no LEDs lit)
I always leave mine in Auto, and usually only need to switch it on manually if I'm about to drive through a bad smell (smoke or some farmer spreading manure near-by)
pressing the Full 'Auto' button on the passengers side will also set the Re-circulation to Auto Mode.
It's hard to explain in writing, and the manual doesn't help much, but the engineer in me needs to know how everything works, so I fiddled with it till I figured it out .
I'm not great at explaining stuff so if you have any more questions just ask,
nah man thats it explained well enough i know whats what now. i think thats finally me knowing what all the buttons in the 147 do at last.
