Hi,

You guys were so helpful last time maybe you can help with this little problem.

The badge on the boot is suppose to twist to reveal the lock for the boot. My does not twist.

We have tried WD40 and good old elbow grease to get it to move but it wont.
Have any of you experienced this problem? If so is it a garage job or anything I can do?
Wondering if they have a problem rusting shut if they are never used.

Thanks again!!!

Hope I'm not too late to add my non-twistage experience with a 2003 147?:)

By the way Little Miss - the bonnet paint issue are they largish patches where it looks like the paint has almost shrunk?

I've got the red paint finish and I have about 6 of these with white showing underneath. I expect I'll shell out for a respray within a year (£220 ish I got quoted)

Yes the paint is exactly as you describe in some places, like the paint has shrunk and left a spider web hole effect and then on top of that there is around the front of the bonnet, near the lights lots of tiny white dots, they look like from a distance fly road kill but there are not, they are holes down to the under coat. Its going in for a bonnet respray, roof respray and someone dented the door (before I got it) so that too, got mates rates so should be fair price, fingers crossed

Told you I love my car:D

Sorry that you had to walk down three storey to find out the answer.
wish you guys could have seen me out there originally with a little chisel and WD40, as if my car hasn t been through enough in its short life, I go adding to its torment by playing with its bottom, oh the shame! :(
I gave it an extra wax for its torment!:D
Chisel and WD40 action........never a good idea on anyone's car let alone a bella
I felt bad enough trying to twist the badge by hand. You never know with these italian cars what items of trim are going to come off in your hand

Well does anyone reading have a 2002 147 2.0 Tspark. And if so what does your do?
I m imagining all these people going to their cars to give the badge a tug to see if it is a twisty one.!!!:D

2002 was when 156 badges stopped twisting too, so I would imagine it would be the same for the 147. It's a lot more convenient having the plipper than a twister though.

My old 156 2.0 TS had a twister which kids nicked. So I got a new one and superglued it on. My curretn GTA saloon is a non-twister.

Hello there...

My 1.6 October 2001 51 plate 147 Tourismo does not twist...

My better half has a Feb 2001 Y plate 2.0 lusso and it does twist...

There are not many Alfa's with a twisting badge that do not have some scratches to the paint around it... Possibly why they changed to non twist?

Cheers...

I think James 76 is right on this one.

In fact I noticed this earlier today on my Facelift model 147 courtesy car when trying to open the boot. It's a 05 model Multijet Lusso and the badge is fixed where as my soon to be picked up (again) 02 reg 2.0 Lusso does have a pivoting lock cover.

Sounds to me like a productivity driven change to save a bit of money on the facelift. However, it strikes me that relying entirely on remote operation to open the door is a bit risky. What happens with a flatbattery! You'll have to climb into the boot through the backseats :).

The rotating badges have a metal pin which fits inside a plastic sleeve fixed to the bootlid. They can't rust shut.

I've seen badges that twist and some that definitely do not on 147s (go down the dealer and rummage through his 2nd-hand stock).

The twisting badges have an obvious air-gap between the badge and the fixed part. You can get a fingernail between the two parts. If you can't see it, then it's a non-twisting badge.
