Bought a new to me 156 1.6 120 bhp tspark, got it for good price, the cars a bit rough and needs tidyed. I had a 147 120 bhp tspark before the 156 and i have to say the 147 felt miles ahead on speed are they a lot heavier?, my 156 doesnt seem to rev as quickly or freely! I have the dreaded 3rd gear crunch and the central locking wont say locked not sure what to start to look for with the central locking any ideas?, she has the noisy variator issue would this cause the engine to rev less freely?. Got the car for 400 with a full years mot so cant be bad to that at that price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the slowness - it could possibly be blocked air filter, MAF not working, blocked front cats, timing set incorrectly.. Basically a whole load of different potential problems. I would start by taking it into a specialist and getting it checked over for any potential issues. You don't say where you are based, if you are anywhere near Beds/Bucks/Herts feel free to drop in:
Central locking - search for threads on here. First thing is check whether it's all doors that unlock again. If it's just one, that's the problem door. Probably a microswitch on a door catch.
Cheers for the help guys, i am based in northern ireland, is it worth while geting a second hand gearbox? or are they likely to have a bad thrid gear too?
3rd gear is not often a problem with twin sparks. Its usually 4th that gives trouble. I can supply a good used gearbox for you, as for getting it fitted, if you can't do it yourself I would recommend Eurofix in Belfast - give John a ring 028 90622633
