My Interview

Your Forum name DOIDARE147

Real name Paul

Age 21

Occupation University student - Accounting and Finance (honours)

Lives Glasgow

Marital Status Unmarried, but attached.

which cars do you drive and why? Alfa Romeo 147 1.6 Lusso – it’s the most stylish hatchback money can buy; I love the envious sideways glances from other motorists. I also have a Golf, which was my first car – I got it for my 18th birthday from my parents. It wouldn’t sell for very much, and has tremendous sentimental value.

Are you a real passionate for Alfa Romeo? Ya! Have always been a big fan, and only bought my first Alfa very recently – I’m now 100% addicted.

What or how started your passion for Alfa Romeo and…
….do you think it’s fundamental to own one to have the passion?
Actually, it was the 147. I was in 3rd year at high school when the 147 was unleashed to the roads of Britain. I remember vividly walking through the town centre at school lunch break with my friend, and then seeing this red goddess float past. I later discovered this to be the 147. I would say, therefore, that it’s not necessary to own an Alfa to ‘have the passion’. I’ve been an Alfa owner in spirit for some time; taking extra care around them in car-parks, allowing Alfa drivers to cut in front of my car, etc.

Would you ever consider joining an Alfa Club or are you already a member of one?
Only alfaowner.com! I would, but I’m very busy at the moment, so don’t have a lot of free time.

What do you like most about Alfas?
That sensible people cannot understand them; that when everybody I know tried to discourage me from buying my 147, I felt even more compelled to buy it; that the fuel gauge says ‘Benzina’.

What do you like least about Alfas?
That there is not a model large enough to live in...

What would be your dream cars?
> Austin 7 ‘Top Hat’
> Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Mulliner Park Ward Coupé (see Steve McQueen in Thomas Crown Affair) – the last model made under an independent RR.
> Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint (Zagato or Speciale)
> Austin Healey Sprite MkI (Frog-eye)
...and, of course, my grigio 147.

What car would you least like to drive?
Any Vauxhall.

What would be your ideal drive in an Alfa (destination, passenger, driving music, etc)?
Any Alfa; driving through France and Switzerland, maybe on to Italy; Jean Seberg in passenger seat; with some Scarlatti on the stereo. Ahh…

What interests do you have outside of Alfas?
Languages, cinema, music, and escaping Scotland.

Tell us something nobody knows about you. (E.g. special skill, ever been on TV, etc)
I'm really an open-book. I can talk in spoonerisms (roonerspisms - see!), which is one of my lesser-known skills.

Do you have a party trick? If so what is it?
Invisibility – and people think that I hate parties(!)

What do you like most about the Alfaowner forum? Any favourite threads, episodes or people?
The very generous people that make it what it is – they devote a good deal of time helping out the semi-mechanically-retarded folk, like me, keep their Alfas on the go.

If you had £50,000 you had to spend in 72 hours, how would you choose to spend it?
Right now, I’d pay someone to write my dissertation for me.
