Lincs Evening Meet – A Fine Mess ( Dambusters ) We’ll Be In. – 30th September 2010.

For our September Evening Meet we are keeping to our Aviation Theme for this Month and heading for the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa.

Date :- Thursday, 30th September.
Time :- 19 00.
Place :- The Petwood Hotel, Stixwould Road, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire. LN10 6QG
Tel :- 01526 352 411

The Link gives more details of the place and I recommend browsing this site to give yourselves some information about the history of this place.

http://www.petwood.co.uk/

Post # 1 has a Map, some details and a few pics.

This is not our usual cosy country pub sort of place, it is a big Hotel with a couple of Bars that should be open although the seating arrangements are more Restaurant than Pub type. Nevertheless I think we should be comfortable enough, especially if we can get in the Ante Room next to the Bar ! There is a very nice Patio Area with seating outside the “ Garden Room “ Bar, whether or not the weather will be good enough for us to use this remains to be seen.

This place was of course the Officers Mess for 617 Sqn, The Dambusters, in World War 2, and there is lots of memorabilia to see. I recommend a wander around this historic old building to see what’s there and to admire the building itself. The grounds are extensive and fantastic too, great landscaping and some pretty cool water features. If you can get here early enough it will be rewarding to stroll around for a little while.

It has lots of Car Parking but today all the places directly in front of the place were full so I suggest we use the Car Park to the rear and side as indicated in the pics, this way we should all be able to park together and have a fine display of Alfas. Bar Snacks are available by demand on the night but if you want to eat in the posh restaurant then pre booking is ESSENTIAL, this is down to yourselves. A word of caution here, it has mixed reviews both for the food and accommodation, so you may want to Google this before you decide if you want posh eats or expensive accommodation.

Couldn’t negotiate anything exclusively for us without hiring and paying, I decided against this. That’s a drawback of using large establishments such as this, all a bit impersonal. Still I think it will make a very nice follow on to our outing at East Kirkby and reckon we should have a good night out there.

Start time of 1900, gives people who have to work a bit more time to get sorted. Of course you can arrive earlier, as I probably will, or a bit later, no problems. The meet will last as long as you want it to, no shame if you have to leave a bit earlier than most or you can stay until they chuck us out, no pressure, let’s just take it easy and enjoy the evening.

If you are new to the meets don’t be shy and just come along, we don’t bite, just drool a bit ! You needn’t come alone, bring wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend or even granny, everyone is very welcome. Coming in an Alfa is not mandatory, just come along and enjoy the wide ranging conversations, you don’t have to be a car nut to enjoy these Evening Meets.

The Summer seems to be disappearing rapidly so lets all get together without resorting to overcoats and brollies whilst we still can. RSVP NOW and I’ll see you there !

Finally, in a somewhat verbose Post, I’ll outline the plans for next Months Meet. As we have had our last two Meets in the middle of the County I’ll be seeking to redress the balance a bit and will be looking for somewhere “ daarn sarf “ for our October Meet.

I think it won't be our usual cosy style of Meet but it should be good, lots of history about the place.

I was there just before Lunch and it was pretty busy. I did ask what the place was like on a Thursday night but apparently it's very variable so we just have to take our chances !

Now everyone else, get busy RSVP ing, there seems to be a slow start on this one.

Haven't you replaced that yet for one that actually knows where it is? Maybe if you change it from the women's voice to the bloke he might know where he's going! But I think you like the excitement of getting lost anyway.

Interesting yes, but a bit different from our usual sort of place. I can understand what Kev says and agree to an extent but as it's our " Aviation " Month thought we couldn't find anywhere else so involved.

Hope it's a good night !

You should come along anyway and don't worry, as a group we are certainly going back to Burton Waters again, perhaps next Spring.

I might have actually found someone to buy one of my motorbikes, I did try selling my son but he's to big to get up the chimneys now. So the wheels should be staying on the car until I swap if for another alfa. So hopefully have my car back for the end of the month.

hope it didn't come across wrong nige, didn't mean it too. i know how much time & effort (not to mention your own personal costs riding round) you put into finding these venues so i would never want to criticise any. i know you have a broad chruch to cater for me, i'm looking forward to fish, chips & musshy peas on skeggy seafront. missed it last year due to working, got this year booked off already
just i would rather say it like it is. better that way i find than to say i'm coming then not show, like the scalextric meet. which for what it's worth was the best meet we've had i think it would get my vote for a return visit, and robs'

Nope, no worries, didn't read it wrong at all. I do share your views on it actually but live in hope that we'll make it a good night. On the plus side it is a very nice building to stroll around, a bit to see which should, I hope, uplift it from the rather restaurant and impersonal feel of the Bars.

Certain to go ahead with the Skeggy Meet, how about the 30th Dec for this ? ( I'll propose this date on the Winter Meets Thread too. )

I want to do the Scalextric as well so I'll starve myself before I visit the place in readiness for a large chunk of Humble Pie.

Onwards and upwards. Just done the gardening except for the Hedges, they can wait ! So, what next before beer at six ?

Have you seen the Lincolnshire Lounge ? Don't stay off the radar, come on in and have a look !

Next Event -The Lincs Dawn Patrol Meet - 22 June 2013.

i may well give it a go nige, after all it's the company that make the nights more than the location and i can sometimes act posh as long as there is no gravy involved

skeggy meet is fine by me any day. i will be finishing work christams eve and off until jan 3rd, any day suits me

don't know what to suggest about the scalextric date. it deserves to be a much bigger success than it was. before or after christmas?? difficult to say what is best earlier while folks aren't fed up with the winter travelling??

see what the (hopefully) majority say
