What have I done ? Perhaps more to the point what have you lot done ? Did I jump or was I pushed ? Fortunately I’m too dense to know the difference.
Going green is certainly a new experience, green around the gills is a feeling I know well but green in any other way is quite novel.
Anyway, enough of this rubbish, on to more pressing rubbish….
Thanks everyone for expressing what I hope will not be misguided confidence in me to take on this job. There has been many offers of support from people and I will certainly be taking you up on this, thanks very much for your help and encouragement, I’ll be in touch !
Here are a few of my immediate thoughts for you to mull over.
Monthly - ish meetings. My initial idea is that I drive around the County ( Good excuse to fire up the GTV ! ) finding nice looking venues in somewhat out of the way locations. I wont “ vet “ the venues but go on looks and location only ! Some will turn out good, some probably disastrous but I’m sure that they will all be FUN and provide for a laugh on the Forum. This will be for the evening meets or maybe even a Sunday lunchtime, we’ll have to experiment and see what seems best. I don’t anticipate making it a set day of every month, this just seems to wear people down, just ad hoc meets ABOUT once a month.
We really should try to get to East Kirby Museum before the end of the season. It seems unlikely we will be able to get the cars actually into the Hangar area but there is plenty of parking and should provide an interesting day out for anyone with even the slightest interest in Aviation. How about meeting up at the Transport Café at Langrick Station for a latish breakfast and then a convoy run to East Kirkby ? A Saturday is probably a good day for this. Would be even better on a weekday but I realize that not many would be able to do this so I reckon it has to be a weekend and we’ll just have to put with the kids, your own included !
Visit Batemans Brewery, have trip around, drink, eat or whatever you fancy. Must say that, surprise, surprise, I’m really up for this one !
One for the Romantics, Insomniacs, Early Risers and Idiots ! I think I qualify in most of these categories ! How about a Sunrise over the Humber Bridge meet at the Humber Bridge viewing area South of the river ? Should provide some interesting photo opportunities and a short but steady convoy run back towards Barnetby for brekkers at the Little Chef by the M180 Barnetby Interchange. VD also suggested that we have a BBQ on the car park utilizing disposable BBQ kits. Alright for you lot but as I’m, a. a very fussy eater and b. a hopeless cook, I might have to settle for a coffee and a Kit Kat ! Should you perhaps suffer from back trouble, i.e. it’s stuck to the bed, or just too lazy to get up we could maybe make it a sunset over the Bridge meet ! If we have this one it’s a great drive up the Caister High Street from Horncastle, PROVIDING that you don’t get stuck behind Puddle Jumpers or GTA Jim in his big truck !
Bubble Car Museum, toot toot !
One for baby ! How about visiting a chocolate makers followed by a pub lunch !
What about the Trolley Bus Museum ?
We could go and see some Seals and have a day on the beach !
Burghley House for you culture vultures. I’m a philistine so not sure this is one for me !
Lincolnshire Explorers Run, still a bit hazy on this one but I can work at it !
Bowling night in Boston as suggested by Mark.
Exploring “ Out of the way Lincs “ as suggested by Gavin.
How about an Alfa Quiz Night ? Would require a lot of help on this one.
Or if you just want a “ normal “ pub quiz then that’s very easy to organize, I just tell you where and when !
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – this would have to be a weekday event.
An occasional midweek lunchtime meet.
Off the wall daytime things like meeting up at a burger van in a lay by or car park !
Last years “ Blow The Cobwebs Away “ meet at Skeggie in December was popular so I think that we should consider making this a “ Traditional “ event in the week between Christmas and the New Year. Kiss me quick hats will be optional but I will be wearing one and if the right person wants to give me a snog well……….. ( Did I mention that I’m desperate ? ) And a BUS.
Possibly a Treasure Hunt for next Spring. Obviously this will take some time to organize, hence the long lead time. Sorry for people outside the South of the County but as I’m only really familiar with this area I reckon that if we do go ahead with this one it will have to be in the South but I’ll try, and probably fail !, to make it interesting enough for those from further afield to make it worth their while to make the journey. Unless of course anyone else wants to prep one………
And of course DO REMEMBER that ANYONE can suggest an Event, it doesn’t have to be me although I will try and provide any help that anyone may want. There is currently a Thread running about meets in the this Lounge, we could perhaps keep this one going for bouncing ideas around. Would appreciate that any proposed Events are initially run by me before putting up an actual Event Thread, doing it this way should enable me to get them up without any problems.
Lets get something going everyone. I will do my best to jolly things along but in the end it’s the people who attend the meets that make it happen, not just someone like me sitting at a keyboard and churning out dross ideas.
Get things going by posting your comments and any other suggestions in the “ Alfa Meet Ideas “ Thread in the Lincs Lounge. For the next evening meet in mid/late August I think we should look at somewhere just South of Lincoln or in the Louth area. This should be OK for the Lincoln guys and if it’s somewhere near Louth might also be tempting to those in the frozen North. Again trying to get away from the big town centre sort of pub or venue, somewhere a bit different. I’ll be having a drive around soon to spy out some possibilities but if you have anything in mind you know what to do ! ( I already have somewhere in mind for this and will suggest it next week. )
I hope to be doing a mail shot next week with Lincs members who have posted in Marks Lincolnshire Members Thread, hopefully we can dust some cobwebs off some of the up to now dormant members !
Finally. I hope I can fulfil any expectations that you may have of me. Do remember though that I set myself abysmally low standards and consistently fail to meet them and so…. If I don’t even achieve this level of mediocrity then “ fire “ me and let someone else have a go, I promise not to be ( too ) upset if this happens !
P.S. Did I mention that there WILL be a MANDATORY meet at my place every Saturday so you can all take turns cutting my hedges, pulling out tree stumps, mowing the lawn and weeding. I’ll supervise of course !
P.P.S. Oh, and if I fail to get much organized in the next few months my pre prepared excuse is that I’m only following Government Guidelines and restricting any travel due to the Swine Fever problem…………
