Buying an Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 TS Lusso

Hi all, very new to this site but after some advice from you all. I think I must be going through a midlife crisis very early in my life. I spotted a very nice alfa GTV TS Lusso in the car park at work, it was one of the bosses. I took it for a spin and had a look around it, my boss hasnt had it for long. But I thought wow nice little motor. I am now thinking of buying one myself, as you guessed everyone I speak with says NO dont touch one with a barge pole. I feel they have a very wrong impression of the Alfa, I mean all cars go wrong at some point. Please can you give me some hints and tips when looking for these? I have a strict budget 3k so understand I wont be getting a top of the range new car, I will have to live with that but I have looked on autotrader and you can pick up some tidy looking ones for that sort of money. YOUR help and advice would be great folks....

Can't help with the details of the car, but somebody with a GTV/Spider will be along shortly I'm sure. Could try a thorough search and also posting in the GTV tech lounge to reach a wider audience.

Some issues to start you off:

Rear suspension (I think) - not as durable as it might be on the TS. The V6 is suitably beefed up.

The TS engine - needs proper maintenance with particular attention to oil level and the cam belt (36000 miles change with all the tensioner/idler/balance shaft) bits. There are a good number of dead engines caused by ignoring these. Look for proper evidence that all the stuff has been changed on time.
