Hello to all
Hello to all, I'm Bob, and I’m an AlfaHOLIC.
I HAVE BEEN SOBER FOR 30 YEAR.
… but… I BOUGHT THREE ALFAS IN THE LAST TWO YEARS.
In 1976 I bought an 1850, it was a 1968 I as I remember. I blew the engine downshifting from 4th to 1rst fllying from a breakup scene with my girlfriend doing 100+ mph. There was a red light, with cars stopped in front of me. I had to stop. I Did. It had asymmetrical Dunlop f..ng good rubber.
I tried to fix the car . I took the engine out and apart(I was 18 then). My friend was smoking Gitane (French cigarettes) and we were cleaning engine parts with gasoline... in a closed garage. Next thing I know, I had second and third degree burns on both my legs, my car was destroyed as were my friend’s garage and his neighbor's motor boat;and I was countersuing my friends insurance company. I was in “Journal de Montreal”'s 4th page: "Mécanicien Amateur Gravement Brulé". I don't have to translate this.
I didn't buy a used car for many years. I had a few Mustangs but also Subarus and Vans, and such lame forms of transportation. But after two divorces and three kids, I saw a red Milano Oro 1987, looking at me from a corner used car lot … and fell in love all over again.
Since then I blew that looker’s tranny, drove 900 miles to get a used replacement, bought a 1991 164 S and a 1993 l for the parts. I just took the engine out of the latter and pulled it in 12 inches of snow with my best friend from his driveway to underneath my backstairs on a wooden sled . The crazy thing is : I am not making any of this up.
It will be nice to chat with you all.
Oh, about my ‘Handle” , my dad was Irish, and I just can not love any other cars. BTW, my last words to my dad as he was dying from cancer were a lie about his tire rotation.
