Wave Shopping for a GT

Hi

Currently driving a 147 but looking at the GT 2.0. Test drove one the other day and I was a bit disappointed. It felt like my 147 had better acceleration especially at low speed. Would be interesting to hear what you think.

I also expected that Alfa would had joined the 21st century in the area of MP3, iPod and Bluetooth. One dealer said they can fit a USB port in the glove compartment but you'll have no navigation control of the iPod. Another didn't know. The cost is AUD$500 which sounds a bit much if it's just a matter of fitting a cable. Is that all?

The GT is, however, beautiful both inside and out. Few other cars in the price class has the same luxurious look and nice seats.

Still pondering...

Re: Shopping for a GT

Go for it. Everyone I know who has a GT really enjoys the car. iPod can be fitted with a cable that runs to glove compartment if you want the sat nav as well. Ask your dealer or just ebay the part and do it yourself (there are instructions somewhere on this forum on how to). The GT tends to have better handling than 147. Of course it's the same engine and the GT is a little bigger, then the 0-60 of a 147 is a fraction faster, but when you start cornering you'll smile.

Re: Shopping for a GT

Finished shopping!

Well after a lot of postings, a lot of reading and a lot of pondering I have finally traded in the 147 for a GT 2.0. It's a beautify car that drives so nicely.

I'd like to thanks Squadrone Rosso, TallPaul and shiny_car for the information they shared, especially regarding Bluetooth and iPod interfaces.

I few things I've learned: there are pros and cons with shopping for a new car as the year comes to an end. Sales staff are keen to add to their numbers but it can work against you as you will be pushed to make a decision before the year ends. The other lesson is that there is just as much haggling over the price of the car as it is over the financing. It definitely helped to get finance quotes from competitors.

Finally, Alfa Romeo really needs to pick up the game when it comes to options and accessories. Things like BT and iPod connections should come standard. Options to upgrade stereo, seat warming or cooling, wheels etc should be offered. I wanted 18" wheels but would have had to buy them as spare parts at the excessive cost of AUD$7,000. Yes, they make great cars but they need to give the buyer some choices.

Great car - great forum!
