From the Antipodes.....

Hello all from OZ,

We found this unloved 156 JTS Selespeed Sportswagon ('03 106,000 km) just before Christmas at a seemingly bargain price of au$2,000 (was asking $2,900). The insides were good and the externals responded to a bit of love and polish. The rattly engine however, was another matter which I won't go into here but now have it running well, almost too well with the max. speed limit at 110kph in most of Australia and the car just starting to feel happy at around 130... Anyway..

I tried to join this group a month or two ago but never received a confirming e-mail (not complaining, might have got lost in the junk mail or so) but thought it wise to try again with the unwelcome appearance of the 'Engine Management Failure - Go to Dealer'. Now it might be different in UK and elsewhere, but going to the Dealer here (Sydney area) is not something to be undertaken lightly, my first and only visit costing $60 for the two key CODE numbers which was much better than the $200 quoted by the other dealer I rang. I declined the offer of a spare electronic key for a lazy $350 (probably plus programming..)

So no doubt my name will pop up within the technical forums with some regularity. Cheers Bob.

156 issues

The funny thing is that almost every possible situation one could encounter re a 156 JTS Selespeed has been dealt with in detail on here over the last eight or ten years, so I've been able to find comprehensive answers to any questions I may have had, for which I am very grateful.
In fact, probably not a bad time to own an older ('03) Alfa in Oz at least, since there are plenty of parts available from breakers yards, plus ample info from this and other sites to keep it running happily, which I'm pleased to report, it is at present.. Cheers Bob.
