alfa sprint

hello from devon

just bought an alfa sprint at a classic auction a month ago. mg's are more my thing but it just appealed to me as something a bit different.
came from south africa in the early 80's and has only had 1 owner since new. came with alot of spares. new wings doors etc. spec is a bit confusing. badged as a sprint veloce, but has a green cloverleaf on the back aswell. ive been told its got a mk 1 grill, but the car is a mk2. confusing for someone who usually drives british cars!
i bought the car with a clutch fault, as in it was knackered. replaced that no probs, but cant bleed the clutch now, so close yet so far! cant get any fluid at all in to the master cyl. ill post that request in technical. if anyone wants to look at the piccies, they are on practical classics site under technical help.

Welcome! If you can't get any fluid into the master cylinder, there might be an air bubble/ blockage between the plastic reservoir bottle Disconnect the pipe at both ends and check that it isn't obstructed. Then connect it back at the master cylinder first and syringe some flui d in so that it fills the pipe up partway. Then pump the pedal a few times and see if it sucks the fluid through. If it does, connect the pipe back to the reservoir, top up the fluid between the min and max mark on the reservoir bottle, and start bleeding the clutch in the normal way. If the fluid isn't sucked into the master cylinder, the suspect a fault. You could also check for leaks from inside the car from underneath the dashboard. Replacement is the best solution here, though you can possibly still buy seals to replace worn ones.
A common fault on the clutch hydraulics on these is leakage from the clutch slave cylinder. Again, check for fluid leak near the gearbox end. Tell-tale sign is fluid leak near the gearbox end. Replacement is the best solution here. If you're struggling to bleed the clutch the normal way, try pushing the clutch slave cylinder push-rod in and out by hand to try and suck some fluid through. Once the fluid comes through, bleed in the normal way.I've found this method to work particularly well esp when the system has been totally drained. Good Luck and hope you get it sorted.
