Hey guys and gals,
My name is Adrian, I'm from Sydney, Australia. My first car was a $300 Nissan Pulsar, but always wanted a 147 GTA. At the time I could hardly buy a burger at McDonalds when I bought my first car, but after saving for a while I bought my first Alfa in 2009. It was a 2001 alfa 147 2L manual. After finally buying it, I fell in love!
Unfortunately as time went by, I was unhappy with the power... Even though you could lay a mean peal with the 4cly 2L stock 147. So I decided in 2013 to buy a 147 GTA that was only owned by two people, one old lady and then a young guy. The guy didn't really take care of the engine, but the interior and exterior of the car was absolutely perfect, not a scratch or dent on the whole car.
I bought the car and drove it to work the day after swapping my cash for the car, it lasted 30 mins before exploding on the highway. Blew a headgasket and warped the head. Mechanics said the owner before me used improper radiator coolant which ate away at the head gasket over time and it finally gave way on the highway. That was a bummer
Since then, my power steering hoses have come loose as well and my brake vacuum hoses losing vacuum while braking under high loads.
Once those few things were sorted, it has been smooth sailing for the last 2 years. Knock on wood it stays that way!
Some mods I have done to the car is, replace the interior to the 2008 all leather interior (2004 interior -> 2008) which cost me $400. That's door trims all around, both front seats, back seats and center console.
I have also upgraded the brakes to the larger (330mm? not sure the size) brake calipers and discs. Got them repainted and decals put back on.
I have also recently installed an exhaust that replaces the stock backbox, with dual tip exhaust on either side of the car (four outlets total). Waiting to hear what it sounds like, I haven't heard it yet!
I also installed some sound system upgrades. Upgraded the tweeters in the door trims and added a small 300W slimline subwoofer in the back to help even out the sound. The headunit I bought off ebay for $300 was gaurenteed to work/fit in the 147 GTA, but neither does it fit or match the colour of the rest of the plastics.
Currently looking for a replacement head unit, if you have any suggestions, let me know.
That's enough for now.
