Alfa 156 GTA or GT ?

Hello,

I have only recently been looking around at the Alfa range. I had an Alfasud back in the 1980s that was great. No rust and I cherished it. My sister then bought it from me and it went downhill fast ! Shame (on her).
I now drive a Vectra 2.5GSI that is fantastic, but I have been looking at the 156 3.2GTA and also the Alfa GT. They both look great but......... well thats it .....what do you think ???

Re: Alfa 156 GTA or GT ?

It depends on what you want it for... the 156 might possibly be the enthusiasts choice, and will be better value. More practical, yet very subtle. The GT... I love them... but 2 doors, and a whole different image, much more subtle mainstream colours than the 156.

Drive-wise, very similar. Image-wise, very different. Price-wise, the GT will be more too.

Re: Alfa 156 GTA or GT ?

The GTA is much more focussed machine than the GT it has a much sharper chassis set up with even faster steering than the GT, the rack on the GTA's is the quickest on any production car at 1.75 turns lock to lock.

The seats on the GTA are generally bigger in fact they are enormous!, if you are slim you will fit in a GT OK but if you are of ample proportions you might get pinched a bit

The GT might have the edge on looks but this is subjective. It's also still a current car and probably will be for a year or two. The 156 isn't sadly.

If you need four seats and four doors the GTA is the obvious, if you just need two with occasional use of the back then a GT would be fine. Practicality wise the GTA Sportwagon would be the best.

Both are fine cars, very fas and reasonably refined, the GT probably has the edge here and might be a better cruiser, though I have found the GTA pretty damn good at that too.

Go for the GT ! Still a current car (but for how long).

GTA is nice, but it's surprising how quickly it dates when a new model comes out.

Thumbs Up Re: Alfa 156 GTA or GT ?

Thanks for all the advice people.
Wont be making any decision for 6 months yet so by then I will be sure which one to go for. As you corretcly say the GTA may become dated before to long..... but when you like a car that not what really matters. Id love an Alfa Sprint Veloce from the 80s - wonderful car but I never had enough money to buy one back then and are now unfortunately well past their sell by date ( except for a real enthusiast with teh time too look after one).
Now that Im off "advanced years", the group 19 insurance for a GTA isnt so onerous - but I will enjoy looking around.
Cheers
