Well done on making the jump - you'll be hooked for life now. The 159 is a great car.
I don't know about the discounts but Alfa Romeo UK have been making big moves over the last 12 months or so to ditch dealer franchises that are not motivated and kick the remaining ones into shape.
Despite the reputation, it hasn't been all bad. I took my 156 into a Portsmouth dealer (2 years ago) for an air mass warranty claim, only to be accused of owning an imported car that didn't qualify. 30 minutes of argy-bargy later and guess who we found had supplied the car at new - yep the dealer I was sitting in!
I then drove the car straight out to a dealer in Salisbury and got a first class service - totally dedicated to helping me out at any cost.
In summary, there shouldn't be a bad dealer left but if you buy and are not satisfied, I guarantee there will be another dealer in Manchester to sort you out.
