looking to buy 156 2.0 selespeed

Hi Everyone,
I have recently had an accident in my 147 jtd and was hit by a bus that failed to stop at a crossroads, the good news is me and the wife survived but the car did not! the bus hit us on the near side at around 30-40 miles per hour spun us down the road backwards into an oncoming ice cream van ( Mr Whipy was not impresed) the impact was that hard it snapped my wifes seat in half and she ended up on the back seat,
all 6 air bags were deployed and no doubt saved us from serious injury so i am very impresed with alfa romeo saftey features.
I am now trying to find a new car and have noticed a couple of importers offering brand new 156 2.0 selespeed 16v twinspark for £9995 plus registration fee
It sounds a good deal i have spoken to one of the dealers they have told me the cars are from Malasia and i can have a choice of coulour.interior etc..
and for £150 the will put mph clocks in instead of kph,
I am trying to find out if the twinspark is better than the jts and how reliable the selespeed gear box is
has annyone had a look at one of these imports(apparently there are a lot on the market at the moment,
hope someone can help.

Re: looking to buy 156 2.0 selespeed

Personally I wouldnt buy one. I assume the car has been sitting around for sometime and although has no mileage they are still quite old.

Also I think Malaysia assemble the cars themselves and has some different parts and setup compared to European cars.

Selespeed..........well if you read the problems people have had with them you'd never buy one but I've found mine to be reliable.

Re: looking to buy 156 2.0 selespeed

Hello and welcome, are the cars you are referring to here:

http://www.parklaneuk.net/sales.asp

there has been a thread on here raised recently about these cars as they were believed to be the smoke damaged ones, thread can be seen here:

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...r-9-995-a.html

by the looks of things these may have been sitting around for awhile, and make sure you check the warranty.

Hope this helps

Help Re: looking to buy 156 2.0 selespeed

hi,
Thanks for the replies
have made further enquires about the imported 156s and Rang Veloces of London,
They insist that the cars are the 2.0 jts and not the 2.0 twin spark, from my limited knowlage of alfas i thought the 2.0 jts engine replaced the 2.0 t/s engine for the 156 around 2003 I pointed this out to the salesman.
They have now changed their add in autotrader to t/s (by the way i went to veloces of london a few weeks ago and they tried to sell me a re-sprayed 156 and insisted it had not had a re-spray even though there were runs all over and parts of the paintwork looked like the paint had reacted.the sales guy blamed alfa romeo and was only interested in takin a £500 deposit so not much faith in this dealer!
I am going to another dealer who is selling the imports and am going to stick my neck out probably order one.
Oh well!! its only ten grand of my hard earned cash

"They have now changed their add in autotrader to t/s "

The JTS engine did replace the Twin spark engines, I saw the add too, so they must be JTS's, but why have they changed it to t/s? or is that just a typo
