Alfa newbee

Hi,

I've been running a much loved mazda mx5 for seven years now. Sadly, I think that time may be fast approaching when I will need to trade it in for something a bit more conventional and practical. I wouldn't want to buy a car I didn't take pleasure from driving and owning, so an Alfa is on my short list (probably a 147 1.9JTD). I've joined the site to get some ideas about possible pitfalls in buying a secondhand 147 and what I should look out for. Would appreciate any advice.

Cheers

Re: Alfa newbee

Cambelt history is critical. Check for clouds of smoke under load as split hoses arent uncommon. Otherwise, just the usual car checks.

ps make sure its the 150bhp unit, its a corker!!

Re: Alfa newbee

Thanks for the advice and welcome guys.

I guess my next question is where to source an alfa. I am thinking something that is maybe 2-3 years old, possibly a high miler as well as they seem to be keenly priced and I reckon a newish car that's been looked after and serviced is a good bet even if there's a lot of miles on the clock.

I live in Sheffield. I believe that my nearest dealer is Autoworld in Chestefield. Anything good or bad to say about them? I'd travel futher afield to find a dealer I could rely on.

I understand that Alfa dealers don't have the best of reputations for customer sevice. Do you think that reputation is deserved?.

Thanks again

Hi and welcome to AO!
Enjoy your stay

There's a thread on independents in the general Alfa section... Maybe worth seeing if one of the ones local to you could be of help.
