Alfa 156 - 466k km & going strong! Badge?
I bought my first Alfa in 2000 without even having taken it for a test drive!!
I fell in love with the design at the South Africa car Show in Johannesburg and when my third BMW was due for replacement, I went to a dealership wanting to test drive the car. There was no-one to assist since there was only one person on duty on that Saturday morning. I asked about the price, etc. and then called them on Monday to get the finance arranged.
I left to Cape town on business and when I returned to Jhb later that week, I drove my BMW to the dealer, dropped it off and left with my brand new Alfa.
In 2007 i bought the Alfa 159, which I thoroughly enjoyed driving, but when I left SA for two years to work abroad, I sold it.
My 156 T.Spark is now at >466 000 km and I have just booked it in for the engine to be overhauled.
Yes, I have had to replace bearings, clutch set (did that at 150 000km before the extended service plan expired, and not since!), different elements of the front suspension - car stood for a year whilst abroad, so the bushes became brittle - and the radio now needs to be replaced.
So, I suppose that I have proved the Alfa Naysayers wrong about Alfa's reliability and performance.
