Thought I'd better stick a little introduction on here since I've already started posting random waffle...
I might be coming back to the Alfa 'fold' again after about a decade. I previously owned a 2000 GTV V6 24V with almost terminal immo problems which put me off Alfas for many years, but recently I just can't get the thoughts of driving a Busso V6 out of my head again
Since owning the GTV I've owned a few standard 'family' cars (and not enjoyed them at all) as well as a few slightly more exotic cars, and recently I've recommissioned a very neglected Peugeot 306 Roland Garros cabriolet (only 25 left!), planing to fit it with the 170bhp lump from a 306 GTi6. Unfortunately I did rather too good a job on recommissioning it, so I now can't bear the thought of 'ruining' a nice looking and fairly rare old car by fitting it with unoriginal parts. Besides, it turns out it's considerably cheaper to ensure even an Alfa 156 GTA than it is to insure a modified cabriolet with only an extra 40-50bhp, so I've now started looking into getting hold of a v6 156 (I think the GTA might be a bit out of my league financially), IMO one of the prettier 90s cars, with a soundtrack to die for.
I've done a lot of work on older cars over the years, so the thoughts of a floorpan dropping out doesn't fill me with dread, neither do the thoughts of having to do some electrical fault finding, ecu fiddling, etc. About the only thing I might leave to the professionals is cambelt swapping - saving a couple of hundred quid vs me wrecking a v6, no contest!
