hi

As my user ID suggests, my name is Derek. I have owned several Alfas in the past and am currently driving a 156 2.4jtd sportswagon.

I came accross this site while enquiring generally about batteries for alfa romeos.

My alfa is playing dead at the moment and my freindly mechanic suggested it might be as simple as dead battery.

any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

Re: hi

Hi Derek and welcome! I assume it is the original battery. How old is the car?

Re: hi

My GTV battery failed when 9 years old and a straight swap for a new one cured my electrical problems, but I wouldn't expect the battery to fail after 4 years. Your friendly mechanic should be able to check whether the battery is holding it's charge, and check the output from the alternator.

BTW, I was surprised to find that the cheapest price for a new battery actually came from the main dealer, (AMC at Chelmsford), so dont forget to give the dealer a call before going to Halfrauds.

Re: hi

I changed the battery on Saturday morning and everything is back to working. All I have to do now is remember where I put the radio code.
