I decided to have my midlife crisis this week. I've been watching The Interceptor on the BBC and noticed the star driving an exceptionally good looking car. After a while I looked it up and found it to be an Alfa Brera. The more I read about it, the more I wanted one. Diespite its drawbacks it still beguiled me. I had never seen one on the road until this week too, when my eyes were opened. A Dark Blue one blatted past me on the M53 towards North Wales and I was trully smitten, I followed it for about an hour. I read a lot and looked a lot and set off this morning in my trusty sensible BMW and swapped it for a white Brera 2.2 JTS with red leather seats, glass roof, and black cloverleaf wheels. I've just driven the 100 miles home with a huge grin on my face.
I spend most of my time driving a 44 year old MGB and trying to keep a cantankerous V12 6L Jaguar XJS on the road so the BMW was the sensible car for tonking up and down the country visiting jobs and clients. Now that's gone, all my cars are totally impractical - but, I must say, the Brera is utterly beautiful even if the rear seats are smaller and more cramped than the Jaguar - I thought that was impossible.
There. I've done it. I'm probably mad but I don't think I will regret it. My First Alfa!
