Mooney Cam Variator

Hello, I'm currently having a love/hate relationship with my 147. The question I have is, can anyone recommend a garage in the Newcastle area that would be capable of replacing a cam variator? Some of the garages I've spoken to haven't even heard of it!

Re: Cam Variator

Thanks for the help.

If anyone has had the cam variator and cam belt changed recently, how much did it set you back? I just want to make sure I'm not going to get ripped off.

Re: Cam Variator

Well my cambelt change would of cost me about £400 from an Alfa dealer (warranty issue) That was a cambelt kit fitted but not variator as I don't think 1.6 TS's has it

Re: Cam Variator

Am I right in thinking that the diesel-like noise at startup (it's getting worse) is caused by the variator? It's starting to sound a bit rough at idle too.

BTW, it's a 1.6 TS

Re: Cam Variator

I think it has been known to cause a diesel sound but can't be sure so sorry for being a bit vague

Re: Cam Variator

Hi and welcome. I've just had the belts and associated bearings done on my 2.0TS 166 and had the cam variator done at the same time. Mine was definitely sounding like a diesel at start up and the cam variator has totally sorted this out. Well worth doing at the same time.
