GT JTDm Q2

VW to Alfa

Hello all
After lurking here for quite a few months and taking advantage of the wealth of information freely given by so many enthusiasts, today feels like the right day to say hello. Why? because today I've just started down the road of Alfa ownership by handing over 1000 big ones (plastic big ones really...) as a deposit on an Alfa red GT Q2 1.9 JTDM. They've got the car in the showroom, but I'm waiting until 1 Sept. to get a 57 reg. it's going to be a long 5 weeks. This my first Alfa, it's been VeeDubs for the last few years, currently a 2.0 TDI Golf, must admit that the 1.9 GT I test drove didn't feel quite as fast, but there's probably not much in it. So, looking forward to getting my Alfa and getting into the Alfa experience.
Cheers
Martin

welcome to the world of real cars.

Remap that beast and then see how fast it is against the golf!

Re: VW>Alfa

That was a quick reply :-). Well yeah, could remap the Golf too, probably still wouldn't be much in it. Being me I'd have to declare it to insurance, so more expense, then I'd be worried about the warranty blah, blah, blah, so maybe not.

Re: VW>Alfa

Good choice on getting the Q2, you won't be sorry - its probably the best overall diesel package Alfa have put together so far.

As you say not hugely fast but quick enough and able to use everything very well especially with that Q2 diff, and I would suspect you would find the handling a little more lively than the Golf - and the overall experience a bit more special.
Except on bad roads perhaps, where it will be a little bit more crashy.

Good luck,
TB

Re: VW>Alfa

Can a mod change the title of this thread to VW -> Alfa?
Because at the moment it looks like it's saying that VW are better

Re: VW>Alfa

Bazza, tried to change it myself by using Advanced Edit, but it doesn't seem to have changed it in the listing...certainly wouldn't want to imply that VW are better

Hello and welcome back from the dark side...
Love the GT (can't afford one though ) but never had a diesel, won't it loosen up eventually and be as good as the cough-you know what?

Nah, the test drive GT had 20K miles on the clock, the VW has 23K, so fair comparison. I know the new one won't feel so quick for the first few thou, and I'll be running it in for the first thou anyway...
