Hi from Lorraine!
As requested by the admin team here's a brief intro of myself.
I'm an English teacher for French students in the Université de Lorraine. I live near Nancy and I'm just on the point of buying an Alfa GT Q2. I've found a great deal of useful information on the forum and that's a great help - thanks to everyone!
I've found that it's really tricky trying to find a nice car! I'm looking for a car that's around 5 to 7 years old and the condition and/or history of a great majority of cars leaves a lot to be desired.
The car I'm going to buy on Friday is in Lille, which is a long way from here and obviously I'm taking a risk that there could be surprises; the harsh reality though is that I don't want to wait months for a suitable car to come up locally.
I've done a background check with Alfa Romeo in France and they have confirmed the mileage up to 2011 and it appears to be coherent. The guy selling seems pretty straight up and the photos look good! It's a 1.9 jtd engine and has the famous egr valve problem. The guy has had the egr blocked off and I'll be checking that out quickly. It's also had an HID headlight system added. I'm not really keen on people messing around with the existing configuration of a car but if it's well done then OK. He also said the dashboard is lit with LEDs. This seems a bit suspect to me. Is that the normal lighting method? If not, having the dashboard off to replace lights sounds dodgy to me.
Any comments or advice welcome.
A big hello to all from France!
