Greetings from Cyprus

Hiya people, im Photis
im from Cyprus and im a big fan of Alfa Romeo and everything Italian in general. After 3 unsuccesful years in the Manchester Uni ive decided to come back to Cy to continue with my studies.. I ve also decided to buy a car, as for 3 years i was driving a Mitsubishi Lancer and a Vauxhall Astra G both my mums. Anyway, i was always fancing a 156 and the time has come to make a choice. I really like the 156 and i think its one of the most beautiful cars ever been on production [1st one is the Alfa Romeo GT ].. on the other hand im not so sure if its such as reliable as German cars or even the Japanese ones. Im too complicated to be honest, but deep inside im going for the 156. It was the car i wished i had someday when i was younger and now i have the option to own it. Im not gonna ask for reliability matters, as eveything is quite complexed although i would be happy if you could just point out some major problems and moreover i just wanna know what to take into account when choosing a 156. [miles, any special 'treatment', common problems -oil for example- some problems found on different editions] and stuff like that.

Thanks for your time, i hope we ll chat ever more when i become an alfisti

Re: Greetings from Cyprus

Welcome - I'll leave the 156 specific recommendations to the experts but be certain it has been serviced regularly and the oil checked! (Oh an cam-belt, cam-belt and cam-belt!) Good luck - For what it is worth, I have had more reliable cars (German, Japanese) and other less reliable (British <sorry>, Swedish) but none of them quite wormed their way into my heart like the Italian ones. If you can afford it, buy one from a dealer and make sure they throw in a decent one year warranty for some piece of mind!

If you find one, let us know what you get! If you don't, let us know what you settle on anyway!

Re: Greetings from Cyprus

Hello...

ive paid deposit for the Facelift[ed] Veloce [02] with Black Momo leather and the cruise control unit, 16'' dial alloys, matched colour mirrors, sideskirts and bumpers [alfa rosso] ? 57k miles on the clock and 1 year mechanical warranty.. in a pretty good condition except some scratches on the right mirror that said he will repair and a small scratch on the rear left above the tyre... im quite pleased ive sort the car thing out, and im very happy joinin this biiig community and into this famous family called Alfa Romeo

pictures tomorrow or in Friday when im gonna drive it home

P.s i dont like the shift knob... any suggestions? [im closing on a MOMO]

by the way the guy told me that the facelift edition hasnt got much problems with lights turnin on.. is that true? should i persue an electrical warranty as well? he said cambelt is gonna be changed, what about the bush? does it worth it ?

what else whould i give attention too

gee my writing structure is a mess

Regards, Photis

Re: Greetings from Cyprus

Hi Mate,

where abouts are you? I'm kind of half Cypriot and have family in Limassol. Just spent a week there on holiday actually.

When the belts get done, make sure it's all of them (aux belts too) and make sure the tensioners get changed too.
Glad you went for the red one, black will me a nightmare unless you;re in the mountains!

good lad - you have certainly entered into the spirit of things. And that's all that matters.

I hope you get a lot of pleasure from your 156 - they are beautiful looking and driving cars!

Re: Greetings from Cyprus

Cruising at 75 miles per hour [max 'legal' in Cyprus] with fifth gear but no torque to kick for more is this like with all 1.6TS? this sucks i like going with fourth with the engine revving @ 5k but thats costy whenever i want to overtake i have to shift down to fourth or wait for the car to speed up by itself
