Hello :)

Hi folks,

my first post ever re Alfa Romeo!

My name is Andy I'm 48 from Edinburgh. Just bought my partner an Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 T-Spark 150bhp.

My partner has loved Alfa Romeo for a long time since she bought her first Sud with her previous partner in 2000. Unfortunately for both it was stolen outside their home not long after.

Anyhoo, we needed a second car that was not a Ford Focus (my car for traveling back and forth to Glasgow everyday) but one which would be lots of fun. She loved her Alfa so much that there was no contest when discussing which car we would go for.

Alfa Romeo, black or white with, in her eyes, the pretty face and the smokey eyes in relation to the 159 front. However, the 159 was too big for her so, the Mito was the chosen Alfa.

We tried for a month to get a Mito, white ones are tough to come by and the four black ones we tried to buy were snapped up within minutes of us getting to the garage. We decided to buy new because when researching the Alfa, this forum was magnificent in informing us of what to look out for and related issues. As you all know, buying from Autotrader/Gumtree throws up lots of issues with dodgy sellers! Our last attempt at a black Mito (again sold within minutes of reaching the garage) threw up another Alfa which had just been traded in.

As an aside, she hates Alfa red! Don't know why but absolutely a no-no! Lots of available red ones though!!

The available Alfa was the 147 2.0 T-Spark Lusso in midnight blue. By coincidence, an old friend worked at the garage and checked her all out and said to me "you wanna buy this!!" By this stage my partner was in love with the car.

It turns out and lucky for us, 1 lady owner, full service history, full repair history - all done by an authorised Alfa dealer - 38k legitimate milage, full year MOT and in tip top condition for an 13 year old 147. Cambelt done - thanks to you good folks here giving me the heads up.

We have driven her around 500 miles in the last couple of days and are experiencing no issue, engine purring, no misfire nor funny noises, temp gauge sits on 90 and roughly getting 37 mpg. We did a long trip at the weekend enabling us to sit consistently at around 60/65 with the cruise control on.

Both of us love this car and have never had so much fun when driving.

Really looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hi all,

thanks for the warm welcome

I have more pix much better ones, coming soon.

Having driven her for a few days now, I find it difficult returning to my TDi Focus even though its Ghia spec! Both of us love the 147 so much and its a joy to drive. In the near future, I'll change the focus to a 159 JTD - it just makes sense!!
