Well fellow alfa owners, I have to admit I truly understand it now...
Im 26 years old and have a huge passion for cars, probably owned over 40-50 cars since 18.. But theres always been something about alfas in the back of my mind and I have always believed that alfas are very special and beautiful cars BUT for some reason never really considered buying one..
Anyway my story is that I actually own a Bmw e87 120D M-sport as my daily driver today and which I think is a semi-pretty car but with awesome performance and driving feel for what it is. Thing is I wanted to buy my wife a new car and she is very picky when it comes to cars, we tried to find a car for her for the last 2 months but she couldnt decide. Two weeks ago we drive past this car dealer on the way home when she told me to pull over, she saw this red 147 2.0ts with the selespeed gearbox, leather upholstry, bose sound system, almost fully loaded for 10.000SEK approximately 1000 euro, which actually was way under our budget but she had already decided! I have heard a lot of bad things about alfas but what could go wrong for 1000 euros and even if it would there would be no big harm done, and It even had a brand new service with all the belt drives/and everything done less than 3 months ago which actually cost more than the car itself :/ So I thought why not, what could be better for the price, A sh*tty vw Polo from 1998 costs more than this and the alfa has everything, I mean come on, PADDLES on the steering wheel, leather, cruise control, bose-sound system !?!?!!!
Anyway I take this little alfa for a test drive and immediately fall in love with it myself, Ok it doesn't really stand a chance to the performance and overall feel of my bmw apart from beeing much prettier even though its a much older car, the shifts are awfully slow, choppy, clunky, interior rattles somewhat, lots of bad plastics all over the interior but theres just something about it that drew my in.
Anyway what happens is that my wife actually hasnt driven the alfa ONCE since we bought it two weeks ago, ive been telling her that alfas tend brake down alot and that I have to test everything out before she can drive it
But the truth is that I love the little alfa, event tho ive already had probs with the sele and som ohter s*it popping up and going away in the infoscreen. Conclusion is that I have now decided to trade the bmw in for a Brera diesel, just waiting for the right color combination to pop up cuz there aren't that many for sale in sweden atm..
Anyway, is there anything in particular I should watch out for when it comes to breras, what i know is that I definetly want a manual but the engine doenst matter, I would like it to be a diesel because I do use my personal car alot in the business that I am in, so a diesel is a better choice IF the alfa diesels are any good that is...
I am going Italian all the way, might even change my name to Guido!
