, Fantastic Forum you have here, a wealth of information! Have searched around for hours and still can't quite find the answers I need.
I have just picked up a 1999 156 2.0TS Selespeed with 70K on the clock, it's just had MAF sensor, CAM and balance belts, and clutch kit fitted. And all seems quite sweet. But I was warned it had an intermitant fault with the Selespeed, and that has now hit a brick wall. Have been driving it for a week or so and she would have fits where she won't select R, 2nd or 4th gears, for a while, then would suddenly be ok. Or if you switch the ignition of 3 or 3 times it would clear. 1,3,5 are fine. Now I am only able to select 1,3,5 with the ignition on and only 1 when the engine is running. No warning light on dash for the Selespeed. but R, 2 and 4 will flash as it tries to select the gear then reverts back to N.
I have checked the Selespeed oil level, that is fine, pump cuts in when drivers door is opened for a few seconds. Turn the igniton to MAR, and try to select R you can hear the actuator trying to change but it takes 2 attempts and then reverts back to N, same for 2nd and 4th.
Apparently after the new clutch was fitted it was calibrated, but I have no proof of this, so what am I looking at here..
Could it be as simple as not enuff juice in the battery?
Could it be the pump not producing enuff pressure to operate the valve on the actuatior for those gears? I would assume both valves work on identical pressures. Can someone confirm this?
Could this be down to a poor electrical connection somewhere on the actuator or the Selespeed ECU?
Or simpy down to it having not been calibrated after the clutch kit was fitted?
Or is it a buggered Actuator?
Please can someone give me some insperation where to look next with out ripping a huge hole in my pocket!
