Wave 156 20v sportwagon

HI Guys, I'm a rookie to the site & also new to Alfa Romeo. However, all being well I'm buying a 156 sportwagon 2.4 20v m-jet this week. It's on a 54 plate, anything I should specifically look for? Many thanks, & hopefully here's to some great motoring!

Re: 156 20v sportwagon

I used to run a 156 20v....
Had it re-mapped to 230bhp.. Great car but check:-
Turbo not blowing.
Tyre wear on inner edges.
Brakes are not warped and stop the car ok (a weak spot on the 20v).
2nd to 3rd gear is smooth.
Clutch doesn't slip (torque can ruin clutches super quick...).
Make sure all electrics work ok (VDC/ABS sensors etc...).

I loved my 'big nose' 20v and it did me proud.

Enjoy and welcome to AO

Re: 156 20v sportwagon

Hello Bargee, I am new to both Alfa's and this site. I am no techno wizard but have also just got a 156 SW, slightly older than yours, on a 01 plate. Only have three niggle's which I got opinion from on this site. My parcel self/ load cover has failed and will not retract. By all accounts it is possible fix, or cost's £200 to replace. My rear driver side electric window is a bit sticky, does go up and down, S..L..O..W..L..Y The advice seems to be to use it now and again and not just leave it closed. Thr other thing is sometimes the fuel gauge lies, and will say you have loads in the tanks when you know you've not. Over the course of 10 miles it settles, or turning the car off and starting again usually works. I am sure with a much newer car you will have non of these issues. These really are minor points me and I am still loving Alfa ownership. ENJOY!
