New Member - Hello & HELP!


I'm Paul. I've been a life long fan of Italian machinery and have owned a variety of bikes and cars from various manufacturers. Currently I have a 156 1600 Sportswagon, an early Integrale and an Aprilia motorcycle.

I've often viewed your forum but, typically, I have only now joined because I have a problem - the cambelt has just gone on my Sportswagon.

Question - does this definitely mean that the valves will have hit the pistons? (it happened at motorway speeds - approx 4000rpm). If so, what is the likely extent of the damage and is a re-con head the most cost effective way of proceeding? As I am a competent mechanic I will do all the work myself so it is just a question of sourcing the right parts.

All comments & assistance gratefully received.

You can unfortunately expect extensive damage.: Back posts on cam-belt failure cover this in detail. i.e. valves, valve guides,big-end shell bearings and so forth.:
