New GT in France
Hello all. I am a recently retired Franco/American who has moved from the US to France. I left behind my Jaguar XK8 due to the lousy gas mileage and did a great deal of research on what to buy upon relocating in France. After much thought and analysis, including long hours reading posts here on the Alfa Owners Forum, I ordered a GT with the 1.9 JTD with Q2. I have had the car a month now and have greatly enjoyed it with only a few minor aggravations.
One starts of course with the outside lines of the car which are just about perfect. I loved the design of the XK8 but this is every bit as good and hugely more practical. The interior fit and finish in my car is first rate, something rarely seen in an American automobile. It is an amazing road car, as you all know. There is absolutely no lean in the car at all on the curves which is better than my Jag was. I was a bit surprised at how much of the road feel comes up through the seat and into my spine. On a smooth road it is nothing, but some of the country roads in my region transmit every bump as well.
The biggest disappointment has been the GPS which I now realize is ante-deluvian in technology. It only works with the CD map in the CD player thus not allowing you to listen to a CD at the same time. And since France is on two maps, if you have to cross from the North to the South, as I did when I picked up the car and drove it home, I was not able to get directions out of Paris to my home. I really wish I had just invested in the good sound system and a standard MP3 player radio. I would have then purchased a separate GPS unit for those times when I will be going to someplace strange and would have saved a great deal of money and had a unit that is much more efficient at the same time.
Thank you all for your care and concern to make the Alfa experience a good one for everyone. I look forward to many years and many miles of enjoyment in my GT.
