I've had my 51 plate 156 1.8 for 30k and much to the dismay of workmates has had no probs. However now its stuck in some garage I dont know in the middle of Norfolk who probably only know how to fix tractors. While driving about 50mph the gauge went to about half scale. Then it dropped off back to about quarter. It then rose to 3/4 scale, hovered for about 5 mins then went to full scale with red light. I stopped and checked the cooling fan which was on twin speed. The expansion tank was full and the bottom hose from the rad was cold, the top one hot. The rad has a bit of corrosion behind the fan and at the bottom, but looks not too bad. The expantion tank was bubbling. The AA man checked this for carbon monoxide and was ok. Also no water or white smoke from exhaust. The coolant wasn't oily and the oil wasn't watery. The garage flushed the rad and took the thermostat out and ran the system which got very hot very quickly. The garage want to change the rad. Tell me its not the pump please.
