Re: will I regret buying diesel 147
I came from a VW diesel background into a 147 diesel, owned a Bora for 18 months and had Golfs as company project cars. Go for the 16v M-Jet engine and you won't be disappointed at all, the Alfa diesel revs a lot freer and there's less turbo lag. Power spread is a lot more even and usable and the economy isn't far off, 48mpg compared to 50mpg on the average run home. Although there's not a great difference in power in the TDi130 VW and the 140bhp multijet, the Alfa's feels generally nicer to drive, with a £10k budget, the facelift 147 with the 150bhp engine should be well within reach. The 147's chassis and suspension is far nicer, it's a lot firmer than the Bora and holds the road a lot better than the Golf, the 147's much more agile and doesn't wallow.
Just wish it had the reliability to match the driving.
