For my 2000th post I thought it was about time I posted this brief Q&A about myself. So here goes.
Your Forum name
Probusterrace (The name of our house in case you were wondering!)
Project Manager for Automotive parts supplier.
Happily living in sin.
Which cars do you drive and why?
147 2.0TS Lusso in Verde Acero (Maple Green).
Why not? OK, proper answers (in no particular order);
1) Only car in it’s class with any style or character.
2]I loved the colour combination of Maple Green and Beige Leather
3) Can’t afford to get anything bigger cos I’d never be able to park outside our house (Terraced street with lots of selfish neighbours!).
4) I didn’t know anyone else with one and I like to be different.
5) It feels great to drive and makes me grin all the time.
Are you a real passionate for Alfa Romeo?
What or how started your passion for Alfa Romeo and…
….do you think it’s fundamental to own one to have the passion?
Started to look at GTVs last year (can’t remember what triggered the 147 phase) but decided I needed to have something more practical for the moment.
Not fundamental, but owning one will inevitably help stoke the fire.
Would you ever consider joining an Alfa Club or are you already a member of one?
Joined the AO Club and AROC last month.
What do you like most about Alfas?
They’re not bland like most of the current stuff on the market and owning one is certainly not boring!
The head turning looks and compliments you get from people who you’ve never met before.
Being able to answer NO to the people who ask me everyday “has it broken down yet?”!
What do you like least about Alfas?
1) People asking me everyday “has it broken down yet?”!
2) Poor functional design/engineering that undermines the wonderful aesthetics.
What would be your dream cars?
Not really one for dream cars as such. Probably be something fairly sad like a Jaguar XJS as driven by Ian Ogilvy in the Return of the Saint
(maybe even one of those ‘modernised’ ones as shown on Top Gear). Need to move house first though because I think they are too wide for our street and most of the roads in Shropshire!
What car would you least like to drive?
Most modern American cars/tanks.
For you, what’s the most popular thread on AO?
Today I am mostly listening to, I got the Alfa wave!! & IPT.
What would be your ideal drive in an Alfa (destination, passenger, driving music, etc)?
Across France, through Switzerland into Italy. Then a tour taking in Venice, Verona, Rome and Naples (at the very least). The passenger would be my better half, of course.
Any humorous Alfa or car-related stories you wish to share with us?
Not yet. Certainly nothing to equal that of our resident Gerbil!
What interests do you have outside of Alfas?
I love Skiing, spend most of my spare time doing DIY. I like Real Ale and cooking.
I eventually want to retire to a house with a big garage for all my Classic Alfas and Jags (something like in Ferris Bueller!) and a workshop where I can make furniture.
Tell us something nobody knows about you. (E.g. special skill, ever been on TV, etc)
For a time, my Aunt was the Phantom Flan Flinger on Tiswas.
What do you like most about the Alfaowner forum? Any favourite threads, episodes or people?
An excellent mix of characters. Good debate. Extremely welcoming and very friendly.
I originally joined to get advice and technical answers for some niggles I had as a new owner. Since then the advice has been invaluable, the company excellent and I’m looking forward to meeting people at NAD in the summer.
As a Liverpool FC supporter I’m also enjoying a bit of unexpected banter with the Man U followers amongst the forum.
If you had £50,000 you had to spend in 72 hours, how would you choose to spend it?
Couple of grand on a holiday. Buy a new Spider and an old Spider. Rest on the mortgage – boring I know but will give me more spending money every month to pay for the petrol I will be consuming with all the extra driving!
