Wave Newbie, looking to take the plunge!

Hi Everyone.

For a number of years I've been looking at Alfa's and thinking "should I, shouldn't I?"... unfortunately, due to the family, and the other half - it has never happened

But, I'm now in a position where I have the option to get myself an Alfa
One of the guys I work with has 2 alfa GT's and I love the style of them.
He has a 1.9JTD and a 3.2 V6 - however, for my wallet's sake, mine would be a 1.9!

Anyway, I keep looking at GTs and facelift 156's, teasing myself until i come up with a final decision!

I thought the best thing to do until I finally take the plunge, would be to jump onto an AR forum, and see what the owners actually think

So, here I am!

Hi and welcome to Alfaowners! I only got my first Alfa a couple of years ago - I wish I'd taken the plunge sooner! Look out in the relvant tech forum (, and I;m sure you'll find lots of pointers for what to look out for in making your choice. GT is a great looking car!

Lol Multivitz, Coincidentally I got divorced a few years ago, but that isn't what is now allowing for an Alfa

The other half wanted a pug 307SW (to have the option for 7 seats) so that's what we got.
There's going to be a requirement for 2 cars next year when she goes back to work, so the logical choice (for me) is she gets the french family wagon, and I get myself a nice Alfa diesel to plow up and down the A1 in!

Almost everyone I work with owns German, usually a black BMW. I'm determined to have something with a bit more personality! The guy I work with has a Stromboli Grey GT 3.2V6 with red leather (beautiful!) and a White cloverleaf 1.9 JTD with red leather... They stand out in the car park

So i'm thinking a 1.9 GT, or a 2.4 156/156SW.

Thanks for the welcome Guys!

Today I had a ride in a GT, the guy I work with has 2.

So, I got an experience of the 1.9 Cloverleaf GT (2010) - think it's decided what I'm getting
would've been nice to go in the 3.2, but I liked the diesel well enough lol.

I'm a new Alfa owner too, has been a whirl so far.. Definitely got my hands dirtier in 2 months of Alfa ownership than I did in 4 years of driving a Polo.. 100% worth it though!!!

There's a good thread at the moment in the 147, 156, and GT forum discussing the finer points of GT ownership - Worth checking out before you go spending any money!

Also worth checking out the "known issues" log so you can look out for the common errors when looking for your car!

Then there's the AlfaWorkshop buyers guide, and one of many buyers guides here on AO.

The one thing I wish is that I had spent more time in these forms before buying my GT. I love the car, and don't regret buying it at all.. But knowing what I do now.. I could have driven a much much harder bargain with the dealer!!!

Good luck!
