If as you say the noise came when the wishbones where replaced it points the finger at them, not fitted correctly etc.
The only other things I can think of are ARB link rod or balljoints. Antiroll bar link is my guess.
Have you looked under the wheelarch at all?
Thank you for your reply to my front suspension problem.
On the 8th of June 2007 the LHS ARB drop link was found to be "notchy" when removed. By this I mean it was not smooth in operation as the new replacement. I thought this was the end of my troubles, as previously when coming to a stop or pulling away I heard a kind of pinging sound as though something was releasing, and this could be physically felt in the LHS spring.
I drove the car away from the Alfa Specialist in Westbury, Wilts really believing that the problem had been cured. However, later that day when driving home from work I noticed a real clatter of a noise, particularly when going over uneven surfaces.
the noise is now much worse that before the change of link and I think that the very
stiff link operation had to some extent masked the awfull noise I now hear.
Today I experimented by driving the left wheel up onto a 2" curb stone and then dropping back and I have proven the noise only comes from the left front of the car.
At least the noise is far more obvious so I hope someone can identify this fault. I am so dissatisfied with my 156 that I would like to get rid of it but who is going to buy it with this awful noise?
If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
