Thumbs Up Slim

Hi people.

I have just bought my first Alfa, its a 156 selespeed.

I know its a bit late now i have bought it, but is there anything I need to keep an eye on regards this model and the selespeed gearbox.

It a really nice car for its age

By the way its good to be in here.

Re: Slim

I'm not a fan of the Sillyspeed myself, there's enough things that can go wrong (well - in my case just wear out) without the need for a complicated clutchless manual gearbox, as much as flappy paddles are fun to use

But there are people on here who have had no Selespeed problems, and some who have had plenty. So just like everything else with Alfa, its down to luck I guess as to whether yours holds out. For me (a poor student) I wouldn't say its worth having one, but I'm a big fan of manual gearboxes anyway.

Good luck to you

Re: Slim

Welcome to AO Slim

The only problem I've had with the selespeed system was failure of the down-shift paddle switch. It wasn't a serious problem as the sequential stick shift continued to function OK. Both paddle switches were replaced under warranty with improved items, and so far I've had no further problems.

Keep an eye on the selespeed reservoir fluid level!

Yes! thats very important. Also if you find that the time between gears engaging start to expand you can get it recalibrated at your dealer
