Re: alfa 147 tips

welcome to AO Wellies...

the basics are:

full service history from either a main dealer or reputable indie
cambelt and tensioner change every 36k or 3yrs, whichever is sooner
both sets of keys, they are expensive to get cut and programmed
oil level is to the top mark and if a twinnie using semi10w 40w

as for a selespeed have a search up top..lots of info there

happy alfa hunting dude

Re: alfa 147 tips

hello mate,welcome.
I bought our 147 selespeed about this time last year and was new to alfas then.everyone told me to avoid second hand alfas as they can leave you in tears but(touch wood)it has been perfectly reliable. It had no history of a cam belt change(mileage was 40 thou ) so i got that done and replaced the ugly exhaust back box.I've been told pre 2001 selespeeds can be a bit iffy(mines 2002).
they can use a bit of oil(1litre every 2000 miles) but theres no smoke or need to keep an eye on the selespeed fluid level and make sure its not of a gunky consistency, should be a nice and clear fluid
the selespeed is a real hoot to drive and i never tire of it,i dont think i'll want to drive a manual again!
try to find a good independant alfa garage as the big chains can be next to useless(i use black and white in newbury, not cheap but you get a top service)
good luck in your search

Re: alfa 147 tips

If you were closer, you could have a 'peek' at our Sele'. Looks good, drives fine, all in all, a very nice machine.: If you manage to find one that has been well cared for I doubt you will be disappointed.

Be wary of vehicles that have been 'thro; the Mill, if you follow my meaning.
