156 1.8TS

Hello (and oil)

Hello! Decided to introduce myself at last. I bought a 156 (1.8TS) a couple of months ago, but I haven't had anything to say up to now (except that it's brilliant!)

But now I have a question: oil. I know, 10W40, and there are lots of threads on this, but one thing I'm not so sure about: can I mix oils in the engine? The oil level's dropped to around 2/3 so it could do with topping up soon, but I've no idea what kind of oil was put in there when the car was serviced at the garage. It wasn't an alfa dealer, so it could've been any brand. Can you mix different brands, and particularly, would it matter if you mixed fully / part synthetic? I ask because i already have some part synthetic left over from the old car and I'd rather not have to change the oil if I don't need to, it looks like access is a hassle on the 156.

Re: Hello (and oil)

This will create a bit of discussion, i'll be bound. As a DIY oil and filter changer, I always stick to the recommended, and top up with the same, personally consider it safest. If you want to feel comfortable, why not do an oil /filter change to give yourself peace of mind.
